Living overseas, what do you miss most about Australia? I wish I could bottle up my family and take them with me. When I was here last I hung out with four of my closest school friends [for] the first time in eight years. I really miss that familiarity and the type of banter I can have with my Aussie friends. We are a lot more self-deprecating and the first one to make the other red with embarrassment wins, really. I think I have definitely romanticized the idea of home as well. Leading up to summer all I can think about is drinking rosé by the beach and living in sunscreen and not much else.
“I wanted to do something that was kind of a little rocky, edgy, schoolgirl. It’s like the schoolgirl that ran out to go see a band. I love hair ribbons, but I don’t like it to look too preppy and high school-y. So, I just wanted to make it kind of sexy and undone with a dark eye.”
What’s a favorite motto or quote that you try to live by? “Be the change you wish to see in the world” -Gandhi
[On her first gesture in the name of love…] I had an argument with someone once and he was deliberately not answering my calls so I drove over to his house. I knew he was home so I climbed over the fence and essentially broke in. I don’t think that’s a grand gesture of love, maybe just trespassing.
I like being trained by ballerinas, so I go to someone named Mary Helen Bowers in New York, and here [Los Angeles] I met someone called Andie Hecker about five years ago and I've been training with her on and off for five years. She's like the naughty ballerina. She's great and she's in L.A. So when I'm here for longer, I try to see her.
I enjoy staying home with friends more than going out. The other night, for example, my girlfriends and I stayed in listening to some '90s rap - my favorite kind. We were in the Hamptons and made it an all-Biggie weekend, all of his albums on repeat. I loved it.
