they meet in the attic and Tony recognizes her as someone who got caught stealing as a child. Annie remarks that at least he remembers her for the right reasons.
Tony steals the pocket watch and immediately shows Annie.
Annie almost tells Helen about it, but ultimately decides to cover for Tony, even trying to keep it a secret from her brother-in-law (although Damian basically figures it out).
then when his gun goes missing, Tony immediately goes to her. The two of them become the first to seriously suspect ghosts.
when Oswald gets locked in the pantry, they share their theory with him. Annie tells Tony to get the bracelet and show it to Eddie and Tony trusts her enough to do it.
(btw this *directly* kills Eddie and saves Tony from being shot. first semi-intentional trigger of the curse we see and presumably inspires [redacted]'s plan later)
and then, as the icing on the cake, Annie almost dies at 21-LI-1-2-4. she's looking at the list and says "I feel like I must have known someone called Martha at one point." but before she can finish remembering, Tony hears that and immediately remembers who Martha is. it's like he finishes her thought before she can.
in another world they get in a lot of trouble over a scheme to solve Annie's money problems. or marry for his army benefits. or both.
