So, there’s this discourse that has been bothering me for some time already and I’ve got to let it out because I cannot stress this enough… Why are there people still insisting Pepper Potts hates Tony’s role as Iron Man/the suits? 

Literally from that moment in IM1 when Tony told her “I shouldn’t be alive unless it was for a reason. I’m not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do and I know in my heart that it’s right.” she Got it and decided to stay. Not only because she is extremely loyal but because she understands why he has to do it! 

On that very same scene she was like “Tony, you know that I would help you with anything. But I cannot help you if you’re going to start all of this again.” if you pay attention to the movie at all you’ll see the problem here isn’t really Iron Man, but rather the fact she doesn’t want him to “start all of this again” AKA restart what got him kidnapped in the first place. I mean, does anyone remember she waited 3 months for her boss (friend!!) to come back home and when they first saw each other again Professional and Very Put Together Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts was visibly emotional about it? She literally had tears of joy in her eyes… So I think it’s safe to assume she doesn’t want that to happen again and it doesn’t really have to do with his role as Iron Man because she still didn’t even know why he decided to start this until he tells her what I quoted above. 

Thing is, after Tony lets her know what he has to do and why he’s doing it, she stays (and she pushes that goddamn button that could’ve killed the man she loves because he asked her to! She clearly was reluctant to press that button and risk losing him - ”you’ll die!” is what she cries out - but because she knows why he’s doing it she pushes the button) both because, as you can see in the next movies she also takes accountability for what SI used to do and because she understands why he’s doing it.

By IM2 there’s not really much going on regarding this but even then she is putting out Tony’s fires while he’s acting recklessly and when people are calling her shit such as “a pinhead” when she’s only had the job for a week she still takes time for this:

It arguably has to do with the company, too since it’s Tony’s name in the building etc but still, she could leave that job for anyone else to deal with. She doesn’t. Not to mention she got into a relationship with him knowing he was not going to stop being Iron Man; in that very same movie he says “the suit and I are one.”

By the time ”The Avengers” rolls she’s all “you’ve got homework. you’ve got a lot of homework” and “work hard” about the Avengers Initiative, which she knows very well what it is about because Tony did tell her as the scene let us know. If she was unsupportive of his role as Iron Man I doubt she’d be that cool with that even if he was only “a consultant” by then.

And then there’s IM3, the movie that RDJ himself said he wanted Pepper to wear the suits because: ‘When we are shooting, we always say, “Wouldn’t that be great?” But, a lot of those things have come true already. I was always saying, “God, I just want to see Pepper in the suit. I want to see her experience what Tony gets from it, and I want her to help him transcend it.”’ [source]

Somehow people really do think Pepper saying the suits were “distractions” (which…well, they were at the time) means she was asking him to give up on Iron Man and many people really miss the point during the “clean slate protocol” scene that, as we can see in later films, never meant Tony was giving up on the suits permanently but that he was trying to take care of his mental health, not to mention that he had a protocol created specifically to blow up his 40+ suits because he knew there was something wrong with building a bunch of suits non-stop so like, I don’t see how Pepper asking him “And your distractions?” suddenly translates to “give up your suits for me. also note: make them look like fireworks. x” to some people? I feel like it has a lot more to do with “maybe you should not hide your problems by building a bunch of suits of armor” 

(also re: Tony’s PTSD + Pepper …like, I get that the movie could’ve dealt with some aspects of it better (and a lot of other things in the movie, as much as I love it), it’s not Perfect, but the way a lot of people, most of all a bunch of Tony fans, act as if Pepper doesn’t give a fuck - especially when they’re apart for most of the movie - and ignore clear signals of someone who just doesn’t know how to help her partner but is trying on the scenes we see them together x x (gifs by capntony) all while dealing with her own struggles (yes, this is a thing), most of all later on the movie… idk, that’s fucked up to me and I have a A LOT to say about this particular topic but that’s fandom to you and it’s a subject for another meta anyway)

Not to mention this:

No offense, but…she gets it and she Explicitly said it on screen…

And really? In the same movie it’s clear she got it way before being kidnapped by a creepy asshole who induced her with a virus without her consent that got her all fiery and violent, I mean look at the way she smiles when she reads the mail from random kids to Tony:

In Age of Ultron they are still together, clearly. The movie also shows he didn’t retire after IM3, and guess what? That was never what she asked of him and not what the movie was going for anyway.

I’m not going to address the Civil War situation here because the movie never said they were taking a break ‘’’because of the iron man suits’’’ and she wasn’t even in the movie because Marvel ~cares so much about addressing issues on screen and all that jazz so like, nah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

& not to be too extra but also the way she’s openly affectionate with Tony’s suits so often like: this, this and this

The point is, it clearly isn’t easy for her to see someone she loves nearly dying so many times and being self-destructive [a lot of times] while using these very same suits he built to correct his wrongs but let’s be real, no one would be thrilled about this. Yet she remains supportive and she did not and I really believe she would not just ask him to stop being Iron Man - because well, he would not stop and she would still worry about him even if they broke up for real, and most of all because she understands why he has to do it and she respects him for it.

ok so since Iron Man 3 came out people have been saying Gwyneth Paltrow wanted out of the MCU and with Captain America: Civil War it seems this shit is all misinformed people have been saying around the internet, including tumblr, and i’m honestly T I R E D because she DIDN’T say that and i’m gonna show y’all why Pepper Potts was written out, apparently. 

WARNING: DON’T READ THIS IF YOU’RE TOO FAR UP MARVEL’S ASS :)

Let’s go with the most important facts: 

- Marvel didn’t even ask Gwyneth Paltrow to come back, as far as we know, so how tf do people expect her to be in the film?????

- When asked if she would join RDJ in Civil War back in 2014 Gwyneth said:

“My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life.“ [source]

- In 2015 she was once again asked if she would play Pepper again at some point during her interview on the Howard Stern Show to which she replied:

“I would like to play Pepper Potts again, you know, it’s such a fun job because I get to be with Robert and I love being with him.” [source]

About Gwyneth “stopping acting”:

- Indeed she said on the first semester of this year she would take a break from acting this year to focus on her business (goop). 

- However, she revealed later on she would be back in the acting business by the next year and she’s already got plans, etc. And when asked if she’d be on an “Iron Man 9 or something″ as the interviewer put it she said she “may be doing something like that.” This still doesn’t mean she’s coming back at all but as we can see SHE isn’t the problem here, right :) [source] 

Now as to why Pepper was WRITTEN OFF Civil War:

- First of all because Marvel doesn’t give a fuck about female characters unless they have enhanced powers/abilities (and even then they don’t get the best treatment ever as we well know and could see, again, in this film lmao).

- During the Captain America: Civil War audio commentary Joe Russo said:

“Yeah, the intent in this movie… Because we knew where we were going with the character, that we had to motivate Tony to want to kill Bucky Barnes in the third act in order for the third act to work correctly. Uh, that Tony would have to be off-balance. And the way that we thought we could make him off-balance was by pulling things out of his life, making him emotionally vulnerable… Really emotionally vulnerable. So, Pepper is out of his life. It clearly is an issue for him, as you can see, by Robert’s performance here.” 

So yeah...They wrote her off, ignored 4 movies of character development to make Tony “really emotionally vulnerable” (as if that was needed, like...) and even called Pepper a “thing” to be pulled out of Tony’s life lmao I’m amazed...

(Let’s be honest, they did it because they didn’t even want to deal with her character at all.)

Fun fact: The Russos knew about the Pepper Potts in Civil War rumors that came around in February and they thought it was funny and didn’t say anything about it being a lie even though it was published by a fairly known magazine (Empire Magazine):

“What were some of your favorite rumors during preproduction and filming?

Anthony: We are aware of them sometimes. The hard part of it is production moves at such a furious pace that it is difficult to process too deeply because you are just trying to keep your head above water with the production.

Joe: I think there was a Red Hulk rumor. There was a “Pepper Potts is in the movie” rumor. That rumor may have come because we sat down and talked to Gwyneth [Paltrow] about “[Avengers:] Infinity War.” People might have misinterpreted that meeting.” ....Well....Okay then, I guess :))))))

...I could rant about this for hours, and I have before, but I’m exhausted and I think I already made my point here: Gwyneth Paltrow has NOTHING to do with the lack of Pepper Potts in the MCU and the so adored by the MCU fandom @ Russo Brothers ft. Markus & McFeely literally are the worst. :)

p.s. I find it so funny that every time a [female] character is pushed aside on the MCU y’all say it’s all because the actress wanted out lmfao alrighttttt
