I was told Project Hail Mary was hard sci-fi imagine my shock when I sat through two and a half hours of what is ostensibly a kids movie???
#I know I know not the films fault I was mis-sold it#puppeteering though!! yay!!! i didn't pack bond with Rocky (sad) but amazing to see in the year of our lord 2026#I have no problem with movies that can be parsed by kiddies#I was once one! and I loved things like ghostbusters & batteries not included etc it's a great entry drug to the genre#but that was sci-fun over hard sci-fi#I did not have a good time#too quippy#spoon feeds you plot and never gave itself room to breathe#the scale and pacing was fucky to the point space didn't feel daunting and the loneliness didn't feel oppressive#the first like 45 minutes is a rushed and inexcusable mess and the rest is fine and babies first don't trust the government#'I've seen it in theatres 7 times it's so beautiful!!!' .... is it???? it was okay? it felt very... small though. The vibe of a TV set#honestly maybe it would've thrived as a 12 episode series in the vane of Buck Rogers or something less budget more focus on feeling#anyway that's an afternoon I'm not getting back#phal reviews
