Plateau responses

Congrats on your many accomplishments! Wish I had advice. I am not doing too well with the scale or the exercising! Blah!!!
Thanks! I hated admitting the scale defeat, so I kind of put it away for a few weeks. It's been like this since January where I'm up and down about 4 pounds. Then I looked at all of last year and saw my weight essentially plateauing within 4-5 pounds and it just hit me all emotionally and I can't get over how much I've turned my life around yet the scale still doesn't reflect it.

Awesome NSV’s!
Thanks! I was shocked when I got the coat on -- I even did a happy dance in the dressing room. :)

Look at you, all productive! ;) Plateaus are terrible. I’ve been going up and down the same three kilos for the past seven months. For me, the problem had been lack of focus. I slip up regularly which in the end means I stay where I’ve started.
I kind of started to see where my plateau came in, which makes a lot of sense. Essentially when I moved back home last July the scale stopped moving. Ironic, right? 6 solid months of living on my own, making my own foods, living within my own dietary budget, working 40 hour work weeks, taking classes, and running. Now that I'm home I've taken a completely different approach to working out because things don't revolve around my 40 hour work week anymore. Between that, and now being forced to be surrounded by my parents' eating habits and my old eating habits (that got me up to 260 might I add), it's a big shock to my system. I've managed to grab ahold, mostly, of my eating habits, but it's hard when you're surrounded by things that once satisfied you.

Hi Nava! I got past a two month rut in my weightloss attempt by starting to go to the gym (for weights, not aerobic work) and upping my running milage per week (from around 7 to 12-15). You essentially want to build as much muscle as possible, because that’s what burns…
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm into some minor weights at the gym, but the problem is that whenever I go it's all of the big guys working and the minute a girl goes to the weights they take all of the heavy weights away and I'm stuck with 5-10 pound weights. I know that you can do stuff with that, but I'm tired of the small weights. I used to be able to leg press 400 pounds, but now there is a rule at the gym about how much can be put on the leg press machine for women (which I think is totally sexist, but I have a feeling someone injured themselves and they have to put a rule on it).
Also, interesting that you lost weight with upped mileage. I actually stayed the same when I was half marathon training when my mileage was upped. But also, I haven't been running recently because the weather is miserable so I've been relying on swimming, walking the dog, working out at the gym and staying away for all the unhealthy foods.

I know you have to change something to get off the plateau. Diet and/or Exercise. I wish I actually listened to that though. Then maybe I’d be off my plateau.
Haha, I think it's a combination of both. I'm kind of fed up with reading all these articles about what to eat and what not to eat. Excluding a meal or two once a week I'm dead on for eating everything healthy. (when I say healthy I'm talking 3 vegetable servings a day, 4 fruit servings, 100% calcium, 100% iron, about 80-100 grams of protein, under 1,000 sodium, etc.)
As for exercise, I'm already incorporating new types of exercise into my routine -- primarily swimming. But I am trying out other equipment in the gym. Nothing is budging for me.
Thanks everyone for your responses! It means a lot that others are in a similar situation.
