Maybe a oneshot about how Hiccup found out he was allergic to dragon root? Unless you’ve done that already 😅
Thorston Mischief
"We've already discussed this, Tuff. Hiccup is a magical creature. Who knows what other capabilities he has?"
Tuffnut nodded, hand to his his chin in thought, "Or, one might best ask instead what other weaknesses our fearless leader has!"
The twins eyes widened with a mischievous glint. "Indeed, dear brother, indeed...and, as his friends, we should take up the task of discovering and knowing these weaknesses to better help him in the future!"
"Yes!" Tuffnut raised his arms in excitement, only to freeze. "But where do we start?"
---
The two stood over a fire, cooking a fish they'd caught. "Hiccup and Toothless get along far too well. I'm thinking, what if Hiccup is actually part dragon? How else could they have such a special bond?"
Ruffnut shrugged, "I don't know. Don't we all have a bond with our dragons? He was just the first to do it."
"But how did he know? I bet he has some telekinetic powers that melded their minds together!"
"What are two idiots talking about?" Snotlout came up, arms crossed.
"We think Hiccup could be part dragon."
"That's ridiculous!" Snotlout laughed, "Come on. He's Hiccup! Don't you think it would have been obvious by now if that were true?"
The twins eyed each other, Ruffnut speaking first. "Not necessarily. Dragons only have a reaction to dragon root if it's ingested or pierced--"
Snotlout's eyes widened, "Or inhaled...like that time the hunters captured them..." He began shaking Tuffnut by the shoulders, "Oh my gods my cousin is part dragon!"
"Wait!" Ruffnut called out, silencing the others, "This requires an experiment. And I know just what to do..."
---
A plate was set in front of Hiccup, the teen looking up from his book. With suspicion in his voice, he asked, "What's this?"
"What? Friends can't cook for each other?" Tuffnut's movements were a little exaggerated as he looked between his sister, Snotlout, and Hiccup. "Everyone knows you forget to eat half the time. We're just looking out for you."
Arching a brow, Hiccup closed his book, "Okay. Well, I suppose I am hungry... This, this isn't that salt encrusted sea bass, is it?"
"No, my fine fellow! It is not. Only minimal salt used."
Hiccup considered for a moment before giving in. He didn't expect it to taste good, but this seemed like a nice thing for them to do. "Alright. Thanks! That's uncharacteristically thoughtful of you guys."
Ruffnut scoffed, "Uncharacteristic? You don't know us at all, dragon boy."
Tuffnut and Snotlout both suppressed giggles at the nickname, getting a wary look from Hiccup. "Right. Sorry, then." With that, he began to eat, but he started to feel like he shouldn't have with the way they were watching him...
---
"Hey, Hiccup, I wanted to ask you--oh!" Fishlegs stopped in surprise, concern on his face, "What happened? Did you stand too close to the forge fire?"
"What?" Hiccup turned, his skin was red and splotchy, "No, but I might've gotten into some poison ivy or something...my skin is itchy."
"I can see that. Mind if I take a look?"
"Yeah, actually. It's annoying."
After asking some questions and comparing to his notes, Fishlegs shook his head. "It's definitely not poison ivy, but it seems to be a mild allergic reaction to something. Did you eat anything unusual today, Hiccup?"
"No, I..." Oh, Thor. The fish from the twins! "We're going to find out."
The sudden change in Hiccup's countenance had Fishlegs follow immediately. As soon as it became clear they were headed for the twins, things began to make sense.
Now that they'd been found out, Tuffnut raised his hands in surrender, "Okay! Calm down, H. It was just a little dragon root."
Hiccup could hardly believe this. "Dragon root?! Are you out of your minds? Why in Thor's name would you put that in a fish? What if I shared it with a dragon? What if I shared it with Toothless?"
"It was for science!" Ruffnut said cheerily, which earned her a glare from Hiccup. "We wanted to know if it would affect you like it affects our dragons."
This didn't help at all. "Why me in particular?"
They exchanged a look before answering Hiccup, "We had a theory that you're part dragon."
The future chief sighed, rolling his eyes, "You realize how ridiculous that sounds, don't you? Clearly I'm not part dragon!"
Fishlegs, who had been silent for quite some time, piped up, "While that may be true, it appears that you do now have avoiding dragon root in common with dragons, Hiccup."
"That doesn't make me a relative to dragons, it's just a coincidence."
Tuffnut didn't quite agree. It seemed a little more experimenting was needed...
