ship with: At this point I’m not sure who I would ship her with. She’s only just beginning to form chemistry with everyone. Depending on where her character development goes from here there could be interesting potential between her and any of the Crystal Gems (sans Steven. Don’t like the idea of shipping her with him). I mean, there’s some groundwork laid out between her and Amethyst already, and her and Garnet could also be interesting given their interactions, but there’s just not enough to go off yet without straying into headcanon territory
important friends: THE STEVEN. I would say all of the Crystal Gems + Connie and Greg are going to become important friends to her, but Steven is clearly the standout. Aside from the fact he’s the sole reason she’s not trapped in a bubble dungeon, he’s been the bridge that’s allowed her to open communication with the others, mediate between them, and allow Peridot to begin to grow more as a person.
As for the others, while the foundation is there and we’ve seen how Peridot can grow and benefit from her interactions with everyone, at this point in time none of them could truly be considered friends. I would venture to say that right now Steven is the only true friend she’s got, and it’s going to be interesting to see how her relationships with the others continue to evolve. After all, it’s not like she can go home now after insulting Yellow Diamond to her face =B So being the logician she prides herself as it’s in her best interest to stick together with everyone.
general opinions: I LOVE THIS ANGRY LITTLE SPACE DORITO JSDGBSKGDK omg I cannot. Express. How much I love Peridot. I felt drawn to her from the moment she was introduced, but the more we learned about her, the more I’ve fallen harder and harder in love with her aaa. She, funnily enough, reminds me strongly of many of the reasons I go bonkers over narratives involving sentient robots, so that’s a heaping dose of help to what makes me love her so much, lol. I love narratives that explore ethics and what it means to be a person. Things like the curious way she analyzes her surroundings, to how she aggressively stays true to herself by going so far as to insult the person she idolizes to her face. Not to mention she embodies the comically serious trope, which is probably my favorite character trope and the sort I almost always tend to fall head over heels for. How could I NOT love her?
Also for reasons it’s difficult to describe I’m ridiculously proud of the fact that she’s my birthstone gem. Maybe it’s because of the fact that as a gemstone I never cared much for peridot and wished my birthstone was something else. Peridot makes me appreciate it more?
