wow yall really are gluttons for pain,, honestly this might be a bit shorter than the others

hangman was deployed on a mission earlier that month and so he didn't get news that you we're on your own mission until he got back

of course he had faith you'd return, he knew you were one of the best aviators he's ever met

and so when he got the call that you were shot down protecting your wingman and they weren't able to find you, he was in disbelief

there was no way you would leave him behind

there was so much he had planned for you both

he wanted to eventually propose, he even had the ring ready he was just waiting for a time you both were off..

he thought about buying a bigger house near the beachside

he even thought about having a family with you

a daughter, he loved the thought of having a baby girl but of course hed be satisfied and in love if you both had a boy too

he thought about names as well

even having a dog or cat

and now, all those dreams seemed like they were being ripped away from him

he couldnt process the news

and when your crew got back, he still waited to see if maybe you'd turn up

instead he was faced with the disheartened look of your wingman

no words were exchanged when he came face to face with them, just a simple teary eyed nod between the two of them and a tight hug

jake honestly did think about lashing out but he realised it wouldnt help anyone and you'd give him that disappointing look that would always put him in his place

and when he parted ways with your wingman he was faced with the admiral sending his condolences and reassurance that they are still trying their best to search for you

he simply nodded and thanked cyclone and went back to your shared apartment

he was granted leave for however long he needed and most of the time spent was at home

he didn't want anyone to see him like this

and yet his friends still came to visit and try to cheer him up

he really appreciated the gesture and he knew in the back of his head that you'd hate for him to cope alone

and then it happened

a call that you were found

jake just dropped the phone and sat down on the couch in shock

rooster patted his back and phoenix just "hey, jake what happened? who called?"

"they found y/n."

at this point the silence is deafening until fanboy speaks up

everyone just scrambles and gets up to go to base waiting your arrival, jake of course is speeding ahead of the pack

you're pretty banged up and extremely tired but you manage to croak out

"god i missed you so much please don't scare me like that again"

as much as he wants to cover you in kisses and squeeze you tight, he refrains from it because he knows you need to rest and recover

and so he settles for accompanying you to the hospital along with your friends

recently you've noticed rooster has been in a sort of funk lately

hes been slightly late to meal times on base, for training/classes, and even a couple dates

you kinda wonder if you should confront him about it or let him work through it on his own

after a day or two of deliberating, you decide to pull him aside after work and really ask what's up

"hey, just wondering how you've been feeling roost"

a long pause ensues but you dont pressure him and he eventually just sighs and runs a hand through his hair

you cut him off right there and take his hands into yours

so, the way im taking this as if you are younger than bradley- in the movie his file says he's 35, so im just gonna base this on if you were like 25 so a 10 year difference,,

im sure some people found your relationship with rooster to be a bit peculiar

but honestly you didn't think it was that weird

so it never really occured to you that others would feel like this is weird

okay so,, i've thought about this a lot recently, going off what we know-

maverick is in his 50s, i'm pretty sure he's specifically 57 years old

bradley we know is 35 years old from his file

maverick pulling his papers held him back 4 years,, so i would think he is the oldest out of all the pilots since his career was held back

going off of this, i feel like the next oldest would be hangman and i totally believe he's like three years younger than rooster so he'd be 32

i think payback would be next at 31

then we have both phoenix and coyote in the same class at 30

basing this off of that hello the two of them say to each other in the movie, they have definitely interacted before this

fanboy is definitely 29 turning 30 soon

and bob is the baby of the group freshly turning 29

i know usually that the crew wouldn't realistically stick together after the mission in the movie but lets pretend they do-

another successful mission called for a celebration of course

and so you, bradley, and everyone else headed into the hard deck

of course, hangman and coyote got settled real quick in playing a game of pool

bob settled into one of the stools with a beer and trail mix listening to fanboy and payback argue about something stupid

while you, bradley, and phoenix drank a couple of beers and played a round or two of darts

and to up the ante, you all decided whoever lost had to take shots of the winner's choice

so of course phoenix bested you and rooster both

at this point you were already feeling buzzed but rooster drinks beer like its water so he was fine

once phoenix returned with the shots, rooster downed his real quick with little trouble meanwhile you struggled a bit

"aw fuck is that tequila??"

phoenix just laughs at your pain

and being as competitive as you are, you challenged her and bradley to another game

i think this is hilarious because i myself am terrified of heights and in love with roost too so i hope you enjoy

you just came to visit home for the summer and by pure luck was able to land a job at the hard deck

he just chuckles because when you go on these question sessions you ask the most random stuff

"i don't think i ever had a fear of heights, i was always so fascinated by being up in the sky simply because my dad told so many cool stories about him and mav up there. concerning how it felt on my first flight, it was like my stomach and my heart were falling out of my body but like,, in a good way if that makes sense- like i had been preparing all my life to be in a jet up there and now that it was finally happening, i was in shock. to me, it feels so liberating up there and it gives me a way to feel closer to my dad-"

while he's busy answering your questions you just lean close and nod intently, fascinated by the answers he's given and appreciating the fact he chose to share so much about himself

"for your last question, i guess i kinda answered it but i like to think it runs in the family. the way i feel so connected to my dad along with the rush i feel when im up there is indescribable. being able to see everything down below from the skies is just so cool to me"

and when he's done answering you just come into focus and he smiles knowing you were listening so intently

before you speak up again he just presses a couple kisses to your cheek and forehead and you laugh at the ticklish feeling of his mustache

"okay wow, thank you for the answers- i just wanted to know how it feels from your perspective,, i mean, i just think it's crazy you're able to do all of that without feeling like shitting your pants the entire time-"

at this point rooster just lets out a good laugh but you continue

"i mean, with me at least- i am deathly afraid of heights-"

the laughter on his end continues and you just punch his arm a lil
