like genuinely, it seems like everything now is just “i ship this!” or “i ship that!” or the counter of “you can’t ship that!!” i understand that the shipping culture is common among fandoms, but again, it seems like it’s swallowed everything i had once cherished, it’s literally just ship discourse now.
maybe it’s just because i normally tend to try and not ship, mostly only canon ships, but you don’t see me going around hating on people shipping ships unless it’s a proship or illegal.

also, the fact that we’re queering them at all? already illegal in their time. congrats, we’re all problematic!
and let’s not forget: these are fictionalised versions of objectively problematic people, either already awful in their own right or complicit in a really awful system (slavery). that means this fandom as a whole has forfeited the “I only ship morally pure things” card. if you’re making 18th-century slaveowners kiss and cry about their feelings, you do not get to stand on the moral high ground about which ships are okay.
