I hope those who celebrated the Jewish High Holidays are well and spiritually inspired.

This newsletter contains much news of Israel's work to benefit the outside world, in medicine, technology, etc.  Jews will shortly be celebrating the festival of Sukkot (Tabernacles) which takes us outside our homes and reminds us that we rely on protection from above. This reality is most certainly understood in Israel at this time.

The photo is of my little sukkah (tabernacle) from last year.  I plan to begin building this year's one almost immediately.

A Torah was stolen by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation last month because it was brought into the Kotel Plaza with Women of the Wall.

Women of the Wall recently wrote an email urging supporters to write an email to several consulates, to the Prime Minister, and to the rabbi of the Western Wall.  If you have a moment, please write an email expressing your outrage.

Below you will find a sample letter you could use as well as email addresses you could use.

To whom it may concern,

My name is (your name) and I am a (student at... work at....).  I belong to (Congregation) in (City, State/Provence).  (If you are active in Hillel, went on a Birthright Trip, have connections to Israel, please include these mentions) I am writing to you today to ask for help. Last week I was outraged to learn that a Torah scroll on loan from Congregation B'nai Israel of Sacramento was seized by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation on Rosh Chodesh Tevet.  The Torah entered the plaza with Women of the Wall -- an organization that prays at the Western Wall each Rosh Chodesh.   This Torah scroll has not been returned to Women of the Wall nor to Congregation B'nai Israel.    I believe that the Torah has not been returned because of the deeply sexist nature of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. Recently I learned that the rabbi of the Kotel claims that he "lost" this Torah scroll.  How on earth could one "lose" a Torah scroll? Please do your part in returning the Torah scroll to Congregation B'nai Israel and righting this injustice on behalf of the Jewish People.

Since the last Positive Israel newsletter the Middle East has seen some monumental changes. Israel's borders have been strengthened and many hostile threats to Israel's citizens have been eliminated or vastly reduced. In other areas Israel's recent achievements also have been awesome. Israel's phenomenal medical researchers can now detect and potentially eliminate many severe genetic diseases. More groundbreaking Israeli technological innovations are bringing immense benefits to the environment, agriculture, energy efficiency, security, commerce, and transportation. Meanwhile, we thank the leaders of Paraguay and Uruguay for their powerful support to the Jewish State. 

The photo of Mount Hermon is from the poster display at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. The entire monumental strategic site is under Israeli control for the first time in 50 years.
