A New Step || Torin & Loki

The thought of marriage had never been something that crossed Torin’s mind.  There was always too great of a risk to his life, or those of the lives he became close to.  He had kept the world at arm’s length for so long, but it was Loki that had slipped through the cracks in his façade, reaching his heart.  Torin could not deny the love they shared.  He could not deny how much he wanted to spend the rest of his long life with Loki by his side.

It was funny, in a way, how nervous Torin became at the prospect of proposing to Loki.  He wasn’t worried about the future, or the act of asking the question.  He had a momentary fear that he would not be able to make it as perfect as Loki deserved; or in some crazy stroke of fate, that Loki would say no.

Saoirse would be the one to talk him down from that nervous filled spiral, reminding him how happy he and Loki made each other.  She helped him pick out a ring, one perfect for Loki.  Torin had never been one for flashing jewelry, always preferring symbolism over sparkles.  He balanced that desire of his with his knowledge of Loki’s taste in fashion.  He settled on a gold band, with diamonds around a blue-green stone.  Loki deserved more than a basic engagement ring, and the one Torin chose a ring he could see Loki wearing no matter the form.  

Of course, Torin did not cook dinner.  While he had picked up a few things from watching Loki prepare meals, Torin was not about to risk burning down their flat on the day he wanted to be so special. Instead, he ordered out from one of their favorite take away places, setting up the dinner out on the balcony. Candles were lit, and music was on, playing softly in the background – one of the playlists Torin had made of songs Loki loved.

He knew Loki would be home soon, judging by the text that he received a quarter hour before.  Torin waited, running his fingers through his curls as he looked in the mirror.  It was when he heard the door open, and he turned to greet Loki.  “Welcome home, and I have a little surprise for you, so trust me, please?”

Torin knew that Finley would sense him in the house, but that never stopped him from being a little shit.  He had a box of cereal in his hand, eating from it as he walked back to her studio.  “I am so shocked.  You have clothes on!”  He teased, tossing a bit of cereal at her.  “Whatcha painting, gorgeous?”  Torin grinned, kissing her cheek.  “I tried to kiss your husband, but he only licked my cheek.”  He joked, pouting.

Torin was working from home that day.  His desk was covered with more than one stack of sheet music while his fingers mindlessly plucked away at the strings on his guitar.  He had thought he heard a knock, pulling his ear buds out of his ears.  Yes -- someone was at the door.  

He stood up, placing his guitar, wondering who it might be.  Eoghan was back in Ireland.  Maybe Saoirse was in town?  The ginger did love to surprise him.  Torin looked through the peep hole, seeing a mess of red hair, but it wasn’t Saoirse.  Now, he was even more curious, wondering if it was one of Loki’s friends.

The vampire opened the door with a smile.  “Hello there, love.”  Torin greeted her, stepping back so that she could enter.  “Loki’s in the shower.  He shouldn’t be much longer.  What might your name be?”  He asked, all too happy to meet someone else in Loki’s life.

Torin and the loss of control were not always friends.  There was a history there, one he never touched much on, even if the scars on his wrist and back told part of the story for him.  Lei knew some of the details, but he had even kept a great deal of it from her, not wanting her to worry.  He knew she did, however.  He saw the look in her eyes when his nightmares woke him up at all hours.  Lei never questioned him, though.  She always left the moment to him, never pulling the words from his lips.  Under it all, that’s one reason he had fallen so in love with her.

When Loki and Fandral entered their lives, Torin wondered what they would think of his past, his issues. In time, he came to understand that they would be as accepting as Lei had been.  Even, possibly, understanding him more than she ever could.  The other two men had lived long lives, years of stories and events that had shaped them.  Torin had never judged Lei for her mortal years, but it was nice to have someone that understood the weight an inhuman life could bring.

Fandral was over at his place.  The two of them had been talking, enjoying the nighttime breeze that came about in the late summer.  Torin felt Fan move closer, which brought a smile to his face.  The vampire turned his head, eyes finding Fan’s.  There was a touch of a hand to Torin’s shoulder, and he turned fully, bringing Fandral in front of him.  His body was pressed against the wall of the patio, but there was no panic.  

He trusted Fandral.

“Tell me what you are thinking…”  Torin prompted, head tipped back.

Scared Hearts || Torin x Loki

It had taken a lot for Torin to open up to Lei.  A lot. He had been so scared to let her in. How hilarious was that?  A vampire so terrified of a tiny human.  Oh, she hated when he called her tiny, but he always meant it with such affection.  Lei was small in stature, but her heart was as brave and loyal as anyone he had ever known. Even himself.

The chance meeting of Loki and Fandral had changed their lives, but Torin had no regrets.  It was easier for him to open his heart that time. Lei had taught him how to love, how to have faith that it would all work out, despite whatever might have happened in his past.  Not everything would end in tragedy.  

Loki had come over that day, offering to keep Torin company during the day while Lei was at class. Apparently Fandral was going to sit in on her classes to see her work.  She had been a mess of blushed faces and stumbled words as she left out of their apartment in a rush that morning.  Torin was at the piano when Loki knocked, and he got up, letting the man in.

“Welcome.  Tiny is off at class for the day, all hyper cause Fan’s going to be there.  How are you?” Torin questioned, stopping in his tracks when Loki spoke.  He sighed, softly, reaching for the God’s hands, lacing their fingers together.  “I’m that obvious…my worrying.”  He confessed, looking slightly sheepish.  Lei probably mentioned something.  He didn’t blame her, because he knew she worried about him.  “I’ve had --- I’ve lost so much.  I nearly lost Lei, and to let two more people in…I don’t want to lose anyone else, and I know…I – your heart is safe with me, Loki.  I promise.”  He motioned to the bench at the piano.  “Want to sit?  I was going to practice.  Do…do you play?”

Torin handled stress well. He always had, ever since he was younger.  Going through the hell he had at a young age had a way of changing you for good. Whether it was for the better was always up for debate, but in times like the situation he found himself in with Fandral, Torin was thankful.

He wasn’t sure what had happened to Fandral, only that the smell of blood was in the air long before the golden-haired man had entered his flat.  Torin knew Lei was safe with Loki for the night, so he quickly shelved any panic about the safety of the one mortal within their group.  

Torin hurriedly got up from the piano where he had been practicing, wrapping an arm around Fan’s waist to support the man’s weight as he led him to the bathroom.  He leaned Fan against the tiled wall of the shower, supporting him with one hand while reaching to turn on the shower with the other.  The spray of water instantly cut through the metallic scent of the blood.  Torin didn’t care about his clothes getting wet.  He was too focused on Fan for anything else.

“What happened?”  He questioned, easing off Fan’s shirt to see if he could find a source for the blood that had soaked it.

Two Pieces || Torin & Loki

♔—- When he found Torin’s note, he wrapped himself in a green silk robe, leaving his bare chest mostly visible through the loosely tied fabric and went out to the living room where he found Torin waiting. “Breakfast, huh?” Loki mused with a soft smirk. “Sounds like you took full advantage of me sleeping in,” he added, going to Torin to kiss him on the cheek. “Judging by your note, I’d assume that your plans for the piano have something to do with a song, perhaps? Would you care to play it for me now that I’m awake?”

He was still in his sleeping clothes -- a tank top and pajama pants.  Torin had been sitting on the cough, waiting for his love to awaken.  There was a smirk when Loki appeared.  “I have to take advantage of a rare situation,” he retorted.  Torin returned that kiss, nodding.  “They do.  I wrote something for you...for us.  I thought we could play together, and it’s for guitar and piano.  I did a version with us both on piano, too.  I would have figured out violin, but that instrument still baffles me.”  That being said, he did love hearing Loki play -- watching the other move and sway with each motion.

Christmas parties, eggnog, mistletoe and random kisses from strangers. The only time such things were acceptable. ( Unless you include college days which was better left unspoken of. )  So when she was kissed, Jenna didn’t complain. She laughed nothing short of the holiday spirit, fingers touching her lips.  “ You get one for free, the next one will cost you a candy cane.”

Torin was always one for parties.  He loved the people around him, even if he kept a lot about himself safely tucked inside a well crafted shell.  His travels had brought him into town, and it was the holiday that brought him inside the grill.  The Irishman had caught sight of the woman under the mistletoe, wondering, to himself, if she even knew what was dangling above her head.  That was when he had decided to give her the kiss -- following through with the tradition.

Her response to the kiss made him chuckle.  Torin knew such an embrace was a gamble, but he couldn’t resist the attempt.  “A candy cane, huh?  How about I buy you a hot chocolate?  It’s the only proper way to eat a candy cane.”  Torin chuckled, being a vampire with a sweet tooth was always interesting.
