Torpa
Torpa http://www.redwood.fm/torpa/
Torpa are brothers Steve and Pete Dandy from the North West of England. They have been making music together for the best part of two decades, drawing upon a broad canvass of musical influences including IDM, experimental German music of the Seventies, radiophonics and neo-classical minimalism. Since their inception in 2012, Torpa have amassed an eclectic back catalogue, currently totalling 30 releases including 2 full length albums.
The twisted flip-side of the duo’s 2014 début ‘Modern Ruins’, ‘Goodbye Real World’ shifts from cracked kosmische (‘Trapped Between Seconds’) to soaring electro (‘Blue Amberol’), from ominous creeping dub (‘Nightcrawl’) to a full on psych-meltdown (‘Project 28’). Nine tracks full of melodic synthesizer hooks held together by hypnotic grooves.
If ‘Modern Ruins’ was a monochromatic, nocturnal journey through the streets of an abandoned city, ‘Goodbye Real World’ is it’s twisted flip-side, a technicolour exploration of a haunted film studio.
In the twelve months following the release of their début ‘Modern Ruins’, Torpa have brought their eclectic electronic sounds to the live arena, supporting such critically acclaimed artists as Jane Weaver and Grumbling Fir as well as collaborating with art collective Datamosh on an improvised performance to accompany an exhibition of their hauntological video work. In September 2015 they were honoured to be asked to play at the opening of the ‘Carbon Meets Silicon’ exhibition at Glyndwr University, Wales.
‘Goodbye Real World’ is available to download via Torpa’s bandcamp page as well as via itune, Amazon, Google Play and other digital stores worldwide.
