SO - I am gonna try to answer this to the best of my ability; while I do/did watch One Piece, I am not 100% up to date (yes, it IS insanely long!). However, since One Piece rose to one of the most popular/well known anime series on the planet (probably only rivaled by Dragon Ball, Pokémon and Sailor Moon), it has also become a popculture reference to some degree. Especially the main character - Monkey D. Luffy - and his power-ups/poses have been frequently referenced by athletes.

In 2023, there was the BIG reveal of Luffy's most recent form, Gear 5 (otherwise known as "Nika"). The episode, due to its hype and absolutely stunning animation, had left a huge mark on the anime sphere as a whole. This is a short description: "Sun God Nika is a legendary, mythical warrior from One Piece lore known as the "Warrior of Liberation." Revered by ancient slaves, Nika brings laughter and freedom, stretching like rubber and fighting to liberate the oppressed."
While being extremely powerful, this form presents itself to be pretty goofy and cartoony, the laughing pose is one of their most memorable and I'd assume that's why Marten Winkler chose it. :D
