Naturally, I started reblogging content about Bly before actually finishing it- but I finished it last night and finally am done crying, so now I have my own thoughts!
Overall, I liked it and I absolutely will be watching it again. Compared to Hill, though? I don't know. They hit completely different, like to the point that the stories are almost incomparable, but, tbh... I didn't like any of the Bly characters nearly as much as the hot mess Crain children (shout out to Theo esp., I'll miss you forever, girl!!!), so I was a little let down by that. I liked them all, don't get me wrong, even Peter was a compelling/interesting [asshole] character, and the WLW rep was A+, but I loved the Crains.
Bly also seemed to take longer for me to get into? Maybe because I was already familiar with Mike Flanagan's work, so it didn't completely blow me away right off the bat, like Hill did? I don't know, but the final 3 episodes made up for any of that completely, as they absolutely fucked me up. I'm talking cried from half way through episode seven until the very end of nine, wrecked.
About the end, though. I liked it. I liked everything about it: I liked the deeper meaning, the poetry of it, how it all tied up and together, but... I am expecting to see some hate, which I'm not looking forward to.
Bury your gays complaints are valid, in general, and, yes, lesbians deserve to have happy endings- as a lesbian myself, I personally hope I get one too- the writer/director is a man and obviously therefore not a lesbian, and even if he is married to a bisexual woman that doesn't mean the show gets a free pass... but, also. It's a horror story, they generally don't end happily. And, unlike some shows, killing off the lesbian wasn't done for shock value or no reason at all here, it was the resolution of a previously violent cycle reborn to be peaceful. At least I thought so. I don't know, I don't normally get involved with analysis or stuff like this, but I've already seen murmurings, and I just... it's been a hell of a year and I just wanted to enjoy something.
However, I will say let's get mad for Hannah, though.
