MG: “How have the tigers been, Sumit? Lee also wanted to know how the rhinos were doing, naturally.”
"We are actually in the process of transferring most of our animals into other sanctuaries. As much as my family has recovered physically and psychologically since the events of a couple years back, our PR hasn't--the very fact alone we have wild animals on endangered species lists on private property, regardless of how well we cared for them, was enough to have activists decry their presence on the Estate grounds. The fines were really heavy too--not enough to bankrupt us, but enough to really consider if keeping all these animals are really worth it. So in addition to moving the animals out, we also have to let go our keepers.
"That doesn't mean it's forever goodbye with the animals, though, and we are keeping one: Kaa. Otherwise, Mata, Maya, Queen Elizabeth, Tipu Sultan, everyone--and the rhinos--are sent to sanctuaries where we can visit, and the keepers we laid out can now work there. I visit my sisters as often as I can, and I am happy to know they are all in good hands where not only they can't hurt anyone, but no one can hurt them too."
