Queenie!! Steve sees dead people for the WIP games please 💛

Yay, thank you! Here’s a silly little scene 👻

“Hey, Eddie.”

“Yeah?”

Steve pokes at the eggs on his plate, then shoves a forkful in his mouth. “Have you ever thought about showering with your shorts on?” He tries to ignore the indignant protest from Frankie, who has suddenly appeared through the wall.

Across the table, Eddie’s brows raise, and his lips tilt into an amused smile. “Not since high school.” He gulps some coffee. “Why?”

“No reason.” Steve moves the eggs around his plate. “Just… You might want to think about it.”

There are a few moments of silence before Eddie’s eyes light up and he says, “Oh… Do they watch?”

Steve squares his jaw. “One of them.” He drops his fork and looks at Eddie. “I only found out yesterday… Why do you look so pleased?”

“Dude!” Eddie grins. “We live with pervert ghosts!”

Steve sees dead people for the WIP game? :D

Sorry for taking forever with this!! But here you go (and thank you!!):

Steve trudges up the stairs and, as he hits the landing, the same damn light flickers. He stops, turning to it, hands on his hips. It flickers again. That’s it. He’s had it! He hates flickering lights and, he doesn’t care what Eddie says, he’s fixing this one now.

He jogs back downstairs, going outside to where he saw a ladder propped earlier, then carries it inside and up to the landing. He’s sweating a little but he’s determined. The ladder is a little rickety and doesn’t sit totally evenly but it will be fine. He’s fixing this damn light today.

First step: take the lightbulb out. Then he can figure out the rest.

He reaches up to grab the bulb and his heart leaps when the ladder wobbles. Fuck. It’s fine. Just one more rung and he can reach—

The ladder topples over, taking Steve with it. In the panic Steve can almost swear he feels someone push him, but it’s probably adrenaline or something. He hits his head as he goes down, making his vision swim and his ears ring, and he might black out for a moment or two.

He hears someone—Eddie—call his name and when he opens his eyes Eddie’s there, touching his face.

Behind him there are one, two, three… A bunch of people Steve’s never seen before. Wait. What?

“Eddie,” Steve says, reaching out a hand.

Eddie grabs it in his. “Yeah, fuck, I’m here.”

“Who are all those people?” Steve asks and then everything goes black again.

Ah, what the heck, here’s a rough summary for a canon divergent AU idea loosely inspired by the tv show Ghosts. I’ve been toying with it for a while but haven’t yet written it. It’s currently known as the one where Steve sees dead people:

Steve thought he'd have his life together by thirty. Married, settled into a career, a house in the suburbs, even have a kid or two. But he broke up with his fiancèe three months ago, he's still working a going-nowhere-fast retail job, he's back to rooming with his best friend, Eddie, and the closest thing he has to a kid is Eddie's cat. And, okay, he does own his own house, but it's a fixer upper his grandparents bought in the boonies that they never got around to fixing up and is only just fit for human habitation. Not exactly the white picket fence life he always dreamed of.

But things could be worse. He likes living with Eddie and it's not like Eddie's got his shit together any better than Steve does. And maybe inheriting the rundown house from his grandparents is the kickstart he needs. It will be fun to fix it up with Eddie and maybe they can sell it. Split the profits. Invest it into their new dream lives, whatever they may be.

So, things could be better, but they could be a whole lot worse.

And then he dies. Only for a moment, but long enough that he can see ghosts. And he just moved into the most haunted house in the Midwest.

Broke out the old doc for The One Where Steve Sees Dead People (aka BBC Ghosts inspired) today! Think it’s time to just bite the bullet and finally start writing it

Having fun coming up with ghost OCs for the one where Steve sees dead people 👻

So far, I’m thinking (spoilers I guess???):

A conman disguised as a priest for his conning/to escape the law - he died when he had an allergic reaction to something he was fed by the then residents

A 60s actress who was filming the pilot for a show sold as James Bond or The Man From UNCLE meets Star Trek, but she was electrocuted halfway through shooting, so she’s in some OTT alien/spy getup

Maybe a dude who slipped and fell in the shower and thus is wearing a strategically placed shower curtain for eternity

Also, thank you to everyone who’s interested in the fic!! I’ve started planning/researching and I’m pretty excited about it

as soon as i saw you post the wip wednesday, i was going to ask for a snippet from picnic time, but since you were already gracious enough to give us a sweet little taste of that one in the post, might we see a bit of the 'steve sees dead people' wip? because i am senselessly intrigued 👀

Ahhh, thank you so much!!! And thank you for sending that one—I haven't written a single word of it, despite having the idea since last November  lol but now I've finally started! Yay! Here's what I wrote (more than 3 sentences lol):

The house is in better shape than Steve thought it would be. It’s definitely a fixer-upper but, the way his grandparents talked about it, he imagined it falling down around him as soon as he opened the door. But the fixing looks like it might be more cosmetic than anything. Maybe he and Eddie can handle it themselves. 

Behind him there’s movement and Steve says, “Hey, this place doesn’t look too bad after all.” When there’s no answer, he turns, only to find the room empty. “Eddie?”

“Yeah?” Eddie comes in from the opposite direction of the sound. “What’s up?”

“Nothing,” Steve says, rubbing a hand over his face. He’s tired. He must have imagined it.

“You gonna help me with the rest of the boxes or spend all day talking to yourself?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll help,” Steve says, and follows Eddie from the room. He nearly trips over a vase on his way out. He doesn’t remember it being on the floor before.

Steve Sees Dead People for the wip game!

Yay, thank you! 😄 so, this is the fic I’ve been posting a little bit about here (I hope the link works)

It's based on the TV show Ghosts and the gist is that Steve inherits a house from his grandparents, has an accident and he's clinically dead for a minute or whatever, and ends up being able to see ghosts. And he just happens to have a whole house full of them!

I don't have anything new to share for it sadly :( but I did start a Pinterest board haha Oh, and a playlist! Obviously getting the important stuff sorted ;D

For the WIP title game (the only ones I haven’t done are Xmas fireplace and uh-oh love comes to town)

Totally want to call the one where Steve sees dead people ‘The Ghosts of Thornhaven Manor’ but it does not sound like a lighthearted rom com type story 🤣😭
