"Cause everything that you thought I would be. Has fallen apart right in front of you"

Ok I don't normally do this but I'm just gonna rant here. Diet culture is literally the most messed up thing ever. Like not only does it create unhealthy, unattainable standards, it also glorifies suffering and pan; physical, mental and emotional. It severely messes with genes, causes eating disorders and can lead to mental health issues. literally stop trying to tell people, especially girls, that they need to be stick thin in order to be socially acceptable. I have friends, classmates who come to school on an empty stomach and then don't eat lunch. I have heard 'fat' being used as an insult, towards other people and myself. I know children, girls barely 11 or 12 years old not eating what they want to because it's got "too many calories". Stop. It's toxic as hell for everyone involved. just stop
This documentary spoke to me so much. Sadly, it is true and unrealistic and the women in this video gave me a new perspective to the whole situation. I highly recommend it!
SOCIAL EFFECTS OF BEAUTY STANDARDS
Current beauty standards are unattainable and arguably toxic. Depression and anxiety due to body image issues can cause teenagers to withdraw from society. This affects their ability to interact with other people, possibly stunting their social growth. As they grow up, they will find it difficult to participate in interviews and such activities, narrowing job prospects.

BEAUTY STANDARDS
Beauty standards, as I’m sure we all know, are a set of expectations that society has in terms of beauty from every individual of that community. Lately, however, it can be argued that the beauty standards prevailing today are highly toxic. Toxic to the point where it affects an individual’s mind set and alters their beliefs and set of values. It has a negative effect on their mental, physical and social wellbeing. And social media has played a huge role in delivering this message. It’s a world where everybody only wants to show the best of themselves, which is all right! But the kind of pressure it puts on adolescents is unhealthy. The standards set are unhealthy.
small psa:
for men who think you’re entitled to having a child from their partner: YOU’RE NOT. You’re not the one going through 9 months of pain and misery+ the pain of childbirth, post-partum pain, post-partum depression, etc. You have no right to demand it from them, because not only will it put lots of stress on their body (both physically and emotionally as well as mentally) you’ll be taking away their bodily autonomy. If you changed your ideas about having children when both of you agreed not to and want to coerce your wife into it, you have no right to do it. Be responsible and either accept it or leave the relationship.
for women who think they’re entitled to have a child with their partner: STOP. Even if you go through the major process yourself, you have no right to force your partner to have a child if they don’t want to. A child is a responsibility, a commitment, and the child will notice if one of you didn’t want them. Besides, you’re infringing upon your partner’s rights. If they feel like they’re not fit for it, listen to them. And even if they are, it’s not their ‘duty’ to be a parent. If you changed your ideas about having children when both of you agreed not to and want to coerce your husband into it, you have no right to do it. Be responsible and either accept it or leave the relationship.
For both: DON’T HAVE KIDS out of peer pressure. It’s your lives, your choice. Even if parents or anyone is pressuring you for it! You have the choice to have them or not, be responsible and think on how miserable a child would be if you didn’t truly want them. Don’t think on having them because you want to ‘try out’ being a parent, because if you have that kind of mindset you’re doing it half-assedly. Children are their own person and deserve respect and love.
Children are not toys to play with. They won’t grow up to be as you want them to be at 100%. You can educate them but they’ll always be their own person!! They’re human beings, and this matter is still taken too lightly. I have witnessed so many children end up being the ‘punchbag’ for the parents’ emotional problems, thus not having a healthy environment to grow up in. Don’t be part of the cycle, think about it throughly before you have a child.
Y’know, let’s be honest. We want our partners to pamper us at times and it’s totally fine. However, the problem lies on if you want them to look after you everyday, in every single aspect. As in, you cannot do anything by yourself, or attempt to. It’s fine to want to be cuddled, to request for a meal but to assume you’re entitled to someone’s affections or favors 24/7 just because they’re dating/married to you is the issue. Please stop having that sort of mentality.
