A/N: So, this was a pretty productive weekend of me, watching anime and starting to pick up fanfic. I also started Kono Danshi Mahou ga Oshigoto Desu today and the subtext...they're not even trying to hide the relationship. Also, Kashima is a cute workaholic that needs someone to care for him. Aka, my favorite characters to spoil in fanfics. :D
Pairing: Kashima x Toyohi
Warning:
Disclaimer: I don't own Kono Danshi Mahou ga Oshigoto Desu
Kashima had never traveled before. All his life, he had been in the city, studying and working around the same area. The farthest that he's traveled was to the forest just on the outskirts of the city for one of his jobs. Kashima wasn't disappointed about his lack of traveling. He liked the steady lifestyle that he's come to have. But that wasn't to say that he didn't wish that he could get out of the city at least once and just enjoy his surroundings without worrying about about a case.
So, when he went to headquaters for work, only to be told that he had been clocking in way too many hours and that he needed to take some vacation time because they were worried that he was working himself to death, the first thing that came to mind was leaving the city for a week before he argued about having such a long time off.
“You need to take a vacation before we get audited for your lack of vacation time in the past two years. So get out of here and don't come back for two weeks, Kashima,” his boss had said, stern faced and not willing to back down at all.
Sitting in the bar he usually came to after room, Kashima nursed the glass in his hands. He had no idea what to even do for two weeks without work. Usually his schedule revolved around his work. He woke up, ate breakfast, went to work, and then came to the bar when he was off. And then rinse and repeat. Which was fine with him, although it did tend to get a bit boring.
The feeling of a hand on his shoulder caused Kashima to jump in surprise, looking over his shoulder. Noticing that the person that had grabbed onto him was Toyohi, a faint blush came to Kashima's face and he ducked his head down.
“I didn't expect to see you here, Kashima. I thought that tonight was your late shift?” Toyohi stated, taking the seat right next to Kashima.
Nodding his head, Kashima gave a lopsided smile. “It was supposed to. But my boss told me that I had too many hours clocked in recently and that our division would end up getting in trouble if I didn't take some days off.”
Eyebrows raising in surprise, Toyohi tilted his head. “How many days did they give you?”
Toyohi stared at Kashima in shock for a moment before a bright grin came to his face. “So that means that you can come with me!”
“What?” Kashima asked, staring at the other male as he stood up. “Come with you where?”
“Traveling, of course. I had been planning on heading out of town for a bit, since I tend to get a bit antsy if I'm in one place for too long. But since you don't have to go to work for two weeks, you can tag along. You did say that you've always wanted to travel, right?” Toyohi was talking a mile a minute, hands moving around in excitement.
Barely able to keep up with the conversation, Kashima held up his hands. “What?” he asked again, terribly confused.
Chuckling at the confusion written on Kashima's face, Toyohi brought a hand up to the other male's face, rubbing his thumb against his cheekbone. “Don't worry your pretty little head of the details. Just make sure you pack enough clothes for about a week or so. The temperature should be fine this weekend, but make sure you bring some jackets just in case.”
Smile spreading wider, Toyohi leaned in closer to Kashima, their lips barely brushing against each other. Kashima let out a shuddering breath, cheeks warming up at the close proximity. He could feel his lips trembling in anticipation. But instead of closing the distance, Toyohi moved back. “Make sure to meet me outside the train station at 9 o'clock tomorrow.”
And with that, Toyohi walked off, waving at Kashima with a bright smile. Kashima just stared at him for a moment before he blinked.
“...What?”
Despite the suddenness of Toyohi's request to come with him on a trip, Kashima found himself standing outside the train station at 8:50 with two suitcases. He wasn't quite sure what he was expected to pack, since this would be his first trip. He was fairly sure that he packed way too many things, but he figured that it was better to be too prepared than not prepared enough.
Glancing at his watch, Kashima tapped his finger nervously against the handlebar of one of his suitcases. As the time grew closer to 9:00, his heart started pounding. He wasn't even sure why he was so nervous. He's faced dangerous situations, gone against criminals that had put him in a life or death situation, and nearly lost his life several times. And yet, the prospect of going on a trip for the first time in his life made him more uncomfortable than anything else.
“Kashima! Kashima~!” a voice shouted from a distance away.
Glancing over his shoulder, Kashima saw as Toyohi ran towards him, big carrier backpack strapped to his body. As the male came to a stop in front of him, Kashima couldn't help but smile. Toyohi smiled back at him, hands clenching the straps of his backpack.
“I'm glad you decided to come along! How are you feeling?” Toyohi asked happily.
“I'm alright. Ready to get going soon though,” Kashima confessed with a sheepish smile.
Nodding his head in understanding, Toyohi grabbed one of Kashima's suitcases to help him out before leading the way into the train station. The trek through the station itself wasn't all that painful. Toyohi was very familiar with the train station, so he was able to locate the gate that they needed to get to, and get tickets easily. And as the two entered the train as it pulled into the station, Toyohi quickly guided Kashima to the back, shoving their luggage into the compartment above them before sitting down.
Kashima gazed out the window, watching as passengers entered the train, slowly filling up the seats around the train. It took a few more minutes before everyone was situated before the train finally pulled out of the station. Toyohi watched in amusement as the other male stayed glued to the window, watching the scenery as they passed by.
“Where are we even going?” Kashima asked after a few minutes of silence, turning his head to look at Toyohi.
Giving a gentle smile, Toyohi just shrugged his shoulders. “Who knows. We've got two weeks to travel around. Just let me worry about our destination and you just appreciate the trip. We've got years to make up for your lack of traveling.”
Perhaps Kashima should have been more worried. And yet, he found himself just shaking his head in amusement before looking out the window. Maybe he could just spend his time enjoying himself and letting someone else worry about the details while he enjoys himself for the first time in a while.
A/N: Perhaps when I find time to write, I might write another installment for this of their actual trip.
