Truthfully, I didn’t think there WERE any other trace rifles here. I STILL don’t.
“See, I’m not sure taking a pilfered Vex weapon and rebuilding it to higher spec was such a good idea.”
“It was the best idea. You wouldn’t want it to have failed catastrophically and sprayed us all with active, energized radiolaria, would you?”
“I’d rather you not be using weapons containing radiolaria in the first place.”
“We’re past that. Have been since they fired up the Infinite Forge on Mercury.”
“Still think that was a mistake, myself...”
“Well, doesn’t much matter whether or not it was, now. It’s done.”
“See, that’s where we disagree. Having a made a mistake in the past need not preclude us avoiding repetition of that mistake.”
“Ah but this won’t be a mistake. This is a work of art.”
“I just hope it doesn’t end up a monument to your demise from ontopathogenic infection that turned you into a Vex.”

[Ruinous Effigy - From the many wings of ruin blows a wind that will reshape this dead world]
Okay, now THIS is my new Crucible META!!
“But it’s made of wood.”
“It’s not wood. The Tree of Silver Wings isn’t wooden. We don’t even know if it’s really a tree.”
“But it looks like a tree.”
“Yes, hence the name.”
“And they say that big boss Guardian made this out of a branch from it.”
“Right.”
“So, if it’s a tree, and this came from its branch, how is it not made of wood?”
“Banshee, could you help me out here? Tell my benighted friend that this weird tree-weapon, though composed of unknown organic material, is not, in fact, made of wood. Please?”
(Ruinous Effigy)
“If we must take such power from machine-demons to become gods of righteous wrath, so be it.”
“I dunno. Modifying our own weapons with Vex parts was sketchy enough, but this thing has its own juicebox. Just taking a Vex weapon wholesale, without understanding how it works? Ask me, that’s only gonna be trouble.”
“I didn’t ask you. We fought hard in the Garden to come away with this. With it, we can turn back the Sol Divisive incursion on Luna, and break the strength of our other enemies as well. The judgment, the punishment we’ll deliver with this... it’ll be divine.”
“If we push back the Vex on the Moon, it’ll be because a lot of us worked together, not because of some single fancy weapon.”
“You don’t understand. Here is power. Here is the call to penance. Here is deliverance. Here is true worship.”
“...Now you’ve lost me.”
“If you are lost, join me in the use of this. Find your way anew.”
“What are you on about...? Is that... a flower petal stuck in your rebreather?”
(Divinity)
“So Omolon’s managed to get this sucker into mass production, huh?”
“And improved the design. It uses arc field interactions to produce the extreme temperature differential in the beam, rather than the original model’s coolant system. Much more efficient, and finally solves the chilly-fingers problem.”
“Chilly... fingers?”
“Oh yes. The testbed Coldheart units consistently chilled their operators’ fingers after anything longer than brief use. Prolonged exposure kept causing cryonic necrosis.”
“Frostbite?”
“So to speak.”
“Even through fieldweave gloves?”
“Indeed. I heard one Exo operator froze the actuation fluid in her hand, and couldn’t release her grip. The test engineers had to disarticulate the hand from the wrist.”
“That’s terrible.”
“Oh, not to worry: they carefully removed the hand piece by piece, and reassembled and reinstalled it successfully.”
“Well, that’s good, but I meant it’s terrible the thing froze people’s hands like that. I had no idea.”
“Hence the redesigned platform here. The only problem with this one is occasional uncontrolled backflow discharge from the field generator, but I’m given to understand that’s very, very rare.”
“You’re saying it shocks people now?”
“Only in the event of an unfortunate misalignment of the field matrix due to probabilistic quantum fluctuations. I’m told it’s quite minor.”
(Coldheart w/ Pride of Omolon)
“Omolon’s really trying to corner the market on these things, huh? Two production models barely a year apart—plus I hear they’re trying to buy out the Cryptarchy for the design of that crystal-based one they came up with last year.”
“Nobody else has the technology yet, so makes sense they’d want to establish market dominance before competition shows up. And before the holiday gift season, obviously.”
“Think any will? Any competition?”
“Only a matter of time, especially with the high price tags on these things. If nothing else, some intrepid Guardians are gonna go stomping hobgoblins till they bring back a working Vex beam weapon, slap it onto a human-operable platform, and sell it to Suros or Veist. Or tie a ribbon on it and call it a late Dawning present.”
“Now that you mention it, surprised that hasn’t already happened.”
