Prometheus Lens
Truthfully, I didn’t think there WERE any other trace rifles here. I STILL don’t.

“Cryptarchs made a crystal that starts fires? Get me one. I don’t care how you do it. Go!” —Cayde-6
Type: Trace Rifle
Slot: Kinetic | Energy | Heavy
Element: Arc | Solar | Void
Perk: Prismatic Inferno - Fires a Solar trace beam that creates a field of heat energy that grows as the weapon is fired. Sustained damage applies Scorch to the target.
Trait: Flame Refraction - Kills with this weapon return a fraction of the ammo used to the magazine from reserves, extending the beam’s duration.
Ornaments: Eye of Osiris, Haetae’s Judgment, Prism, Felsic Pyroclasm
Origin & Description: Prometheus Lens is the Solar member of the original trio of elemental damage trace rifles, the others being Coldheart and Wavesplitter. As befits their old hot-cold duality, while Coldheart’s trait makes it best suited for focus-firing a big target, Prometheus Lens is made for crowd control. The growing heat field shreds groups of red-bar enemies and the frequent kills keep reloading the weapon till you can plausibly drain your entire ammo stockpile burning up mooks without ever taking your finger off the trigger. In the big tuning pass that updated the original trace rifles it picked up the ability to apply stacks of Scorch, the Solar 3.0 damage-over-time debuff, so stay on target and larger enemies will also start feeling the heat.
Prometheus Lens has a special place in some players’ hearts because of the circumstances of its introduction. When it debuted in the Curse of Osiris DLC players discovered it was bugged out in PvP activities, killing opponents in a fraction of a second. Bungie moved quickly to fix the bug, but rather than ban the weapon in the meantime, they just leaned into it. Xur, the game’s itinerant vendor of exotics, showed up on Friday with Prometheus Lens on sale, and thus Destiny declared Laser Tag Weekend. It couldn’t last - and needed to be fixed - but for a few hilarious days the Crucible became a fireworks show of laser beams and exploding Guardians. A year and a half later, when they issued the special emblem "Wolves Unleashed," they figured they might as well commemorate Laser Tag Weekend too and gave away the skull-melting "Prismatic Inferno" emblem for anyone who played during that time.
Prometheus Lens has an unusual amount of ornaments. "Prism" just makes it look...half-camouflaged for some reason? I have no idea what you could possibly want to hide Prometheus Lens from, but hey. "Eye of Osiris" is a quasi-Egyptian look to fit the aesthetic of the Curse of Osiris DLC, where it was added; it also changes the central crystal to a red Vex eye. "Haetae's Judgement" refers to the haetae or xiezhi, a beast from East Asian mythology that could instinctively tell the guilty from the innocent. Its image is associated with justice and law and it's used as the mascot of the city of Seoul. Destiny is widely played in South Korea as the slightly-tweaked Destiny: Guardians, so it's no surprise to see such a popular Korean motif. "Felsic Pyroclasm" gives it an amazing lava look.
