depending on what they’re doing, a programmer can achieve a surprising amount of things using just the command line and a keyboard. but I know I, for one, would be utterly lost without a mouse

I'm sure they can do tons of things with the mouse, but I just thinking--

when you're looking at some files and they tap away at the keyboard to pull one up. one of the files right there on the screen. that they could have clicked on with the mouse.

how realistic is that? would your ordinary computer programmer use the command line to open that, or just the mouse?

roll a DC10 Intelligence check followed by DC15 Charisma check to compose a well-worded e-mail which follows proper social protocol

putting it in dnd terms makes everything better. it's that charisma check that's the problem. maybe I'll ask the DM if I get a high enough intelligence check it'll make up for my shitty charisma.
