Sunday Dinner - Italian night
A while ago, I stumbled on a leisurely-written blog by a modern Jewish woman. It's been so long that I have since lost her URL and can't credit her as I'm wont to.
The article I came across spoke of the Shabbat tradition at a high level and its author went on to describe how she has adapted it for her family. In short, the Shabbat isn't merely "a day of prayer", it is a day for feasting and rest. A day in which family can return to the comforts of home.
It reminds me of the warmth of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Chinese New Year when my own family comes together. Now that I'm a mother of one, to be two, and growing my own nuclear family, the essence of the Shabbat appeals to me. I'd love to adapt its practice to build a tradition within my own home!
We're starting with Sunday dinner this Labor Day weekend. Pot luck style with my brothers and their significant partners. Wish us luck!!
