I could carry on working on this piece forever but I fear I may carve away the spirit of the piece so I’ve decided to call it finished. I’ve also settled on the name ‘Chrysalis’ to reflect on struggle being a step on the path to change and to freedom. I have loved the process carving her and, though I will forever see the flaws in my work, it has been an incredible learning experience. Blueboi made from Green Ash (fraxinus pennsylvanica) with full draw specs of about 40# @ 27". I started carving this Tree Kuksa / cup thing so long ago that I can’t recall how long it has haunted me… maybe two years or more (If you’ve followed me for a while you may have seen it in the background of other posts). Having returned from a week in the woods I’ve decided to try and finish carving it at last, along with a few jewellery pieces that I’ve left partially carved over the past few months.

I’m finally getting a passport and hitting the road to teach woodcarving outside of the UK!!
