Social media is performative by nature. We post to incur likes and follows. But influencer culture takes these performances to an entirely new level in motherhood. These virtual mom friends, with their massive social media followings, are performing motherhood in a way that is both captivating and unnerving.

The tradmom accounts that are aesthetically grounded in some sort of sense of nostalgia or some sort of “simpler time” do appeal to those of us who are firmly centered in the complicated now. I think it comes back to this human need to hope for things. We want to hope that, for example, work-life balance can be more equitable for women in this country and mothers in this country. We want to hope that we won’t always feel so frenzied and burnt out in our roles as mothers. So I think one reason that we follow is a sense of escapism, like, this woman is kneading her sourdough and milking her cows, and it feels wholly removed from my life. I don’t feel like I have to compare myself to it because it’s completely different from my everyday.

But I think it’s insidious in that it assumes that there was a sense of purity or rightness in a time when most women were oppressed. When we think, it was simpler then, it was easier then, we have to ask, who was it simpler or easier for? And the answer is usually white, rich men.

I'm a 25 year old trans woman, and I want to take care of all of my babies. I know so many people feel lost and alone and unloved, and it breaks my heart. I know so many people never had the best mom, and lost out on a lot of love and care. That breaks my heart too

Let me make it up to you. Let me take care of you. Come sit on the couch and watch cartoons. Come over for dinner and cookies. Ask me for support and advice and love, because I want to give you all of it!

How long have you had the mother bastard? If she is 14 does that mean you have had her since you were a child?

You are correct - I've had her since I was 9! She was born into the family, same with bastard child :)

Daisy, mother bastard, is still very active and kicking despite her old age (her mom passed away at 11, for reference). Her and I go on active walks. She can manage half a mile easily - even with a lame leg. She broke her front right leg a few years ago and it healed funky. It was either that or amputation, which I couldn't afford by any means :(

I only play Sims on my laptop, but even then it is often too much for my laptop. TBT to when I waited over an hour for Sims 3 to load up. I don't have the space or money for a gaming PC, unfortunately. It is something I want to look into in the future when I have more space and money.

Non-American here so forgive my ignorance. You said a few times Trump has an advantage in the Supreme Court of 5-4. Why is that so? How can you tell already who will support him when the case has not been before the Supreme Court yet?

You're alright! I'm sure many Americans also don't understand what others mean when we say there is an advantage of 5-4 in the SCOTUS.

The numbers refer to the bias of the judges and how they're likely to vote. It has varied over the years as it depends on the judges currently on the court. In this court today, it holds a bias towards conservative values, or at least a stricter interpretation of the constitution. 5 of them have shown to value the constitution greatly, having already voted down a New York lockdown as it violated religious freedom.

Earlier, when ACB was in the process of being confirmed, we had assumed this Court was going to be a 6-3 conservative biased Court, but Chief Justice Roberts has shown he is now either a wild card or his views has shifted to that of a liberal judge, as he voted the New York lockdown towards religion was constitutional.

It's also worth noting that Biden & Harris hasn't made any favors towards the majority bias in the Court, laws aside. 3 of which were harassed by them during their process of being confirmed on the Court. But, all are now invested in this in another way as Biden has danced around answering if he'll pack the SCOTUS. At one point, he openly told potential voters they "don't deserve to know" if he will pack the Court or not.

For those unaware, packing the court refers to a president adding as many Justices as it takes to make a desired viewpoint hold a majority bias in Court. If Biden does this, these Justices will lose their voice in the Court. As of right now, there are no limits on Justices in the SCOTUS, but the modern standard is 9 Justices and all modern presidents have respected this.

It very much is, but I don't mind. I typically try to answer all relating to the current topic and then I'll pick and choose during quiet times with discourse. My drafts are also asks I'm in the process of answering. And, no! It's not, thankfully. It's mostly people asking my thoughts on a topic or admitting they are also not your "traditional" conservative.

I do try to answer named ones first no matter what's happening with the discourse, but sometimes they get lost in my inbox :(
