“Light Streak in Capitol Reef” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An early morning exploration of Capitol Reef National Park in Central Utah. Scenic drive road sits up against the WaterPocket Fold and is beautiful as the sun’s light begins to light the park. A lone car heading towards the village of Fruita sped by as I photographed the sandstone faces. “End of the Season” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Traveling the backroads in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado can deliver up some surprises. We were coming back to Denver from summiting four 14ers in the Mosquito Range and I cam across this old truck near a cabin in the mountains. It just hit me as a quintessential Colorado scene. I stopped and composed this photograph. Not sure what the make or year of the truck is but it had been well used. I love how the chrome still sparkled but it was rusted all over. "Reynolds and Steuart Lakes above Loch Lomond" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hiking the continental divide trail north of Idaho Springs, Colorado we came across large Loch Lomonde and smaller iced lakes. This area is part of the James Peak Wilderness and sits just below the awesome 13,000+ foot James Peak which cannot be seen in this photo because it rises to the right of the scene. The upper lakes were frozen over and had a rich blue tint to the ice. It was photographed in late November before the heavy snows had some. Heavy Snow in the Valley" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Big spring snow at White Ranch Open Space Park outside of Golden Colorado. Heavy snows are typical in the spring and hiking White Ranch during a snowstorm is a treat. There are nice trails covering the top of the foothills and the rural history can be found on them. Being just 10 minutes from Golden makes it easily accessible even in inclement weather. “Viewing Bryce Canyon Amphitheaters” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On a beautiful fall morning in Bryce Canyon National Park. Taking a short hike up to Inspiration Point, I stopped on the way to capture this view of the Amphitheaters. Bryce Canyon is a mesmerizing location and even with the crowds an artist can find their inspiration. The major feature of the park is Bryce Canyon, which despite its name, is not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. “Evening Glow at Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of those beautiful evenings at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. The fiesta is an explosion of color and the balloon glow at sunset can be spectacular. This hot air balloon was glowing with bright colors with the silhouette of cacti and wrangling cowboy gave the perfect ambiance to the end of the day. "Large Bison at Rocky Mountain Arsenal" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is a 15,988-acre National Wildlife Refuge located adjacent to Commerce City, Colorado. It is approximately 8 miles (13 km) northeast of downtown Denver. The facility is on the grounds of the former Rocky Mountain Arsenal, a United States Army chemical weapons manufacturing facility. The site was designated a national wildlife refuge in 1992 by the United States Congress, and underwent a costly environmental cleanup in order to remove pollutants. The refuge is managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. More than 330 species of wildlife inhabit the refuge, including raptors, deer, raccoons, coyotes, white pelicans, black-footed ferrets, black-tailed prairie dogs, and bison. This huge bull American Bison was watching the process as I photograph him at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge. There is a small herd that is free on the north side of the refuge. A couple of the bulls are enormous. I love letting them live free so close in the Denver metropolitan area. It fulfills my heart to see these animals free and not in danger from hunters and people or vehicles. If you have never been to the refuge you shoulds check it out.
