And now for the second appeal rounds. Drew starts it off by sending out his new Absol. The Absol uses flash, which sends a blinding light in waves across the stage, Absol apparently absorbs the light and it make’s their fur coat sparkle.

Back to Drew’s preformence.
The light is gone and Absol uses Water Pules. A blue Aura starts to surround Absol and a ring of water appears, getting bigger as it flows away from the Absol.
The water starts Spiraling around the Absol, until they are told to use Razor Wind. Once they do, many of them come and destroy all of the water. This only leaves small sparkles of glitter from the water.

Jessie is doing this thing where she’s going to interview a random person who made it to the next round.
She’s literally in the middle of a hallway and body could walk through.

And now for the next person’s second appeal! It’s Harley, and he’s no longer in that stupid outfit!
I really want to make a snarky comment rn about how he’s still wearing a stupid outfit but I don’t becuase I don’t think it’s stupid he just cares a lot about his Cacturn and it’s cute.
He sends out Octillary who starts off by using Fire Blast. They jump up into the air and light a circle of Fire. Octillary stands in the middle, and pretends like he’s summoning the devil.

Wait so Ash is trying to get his hat back from the Apom?
I thought Ash already got his hat back. Oh well.
So eventually Pikachu uses quick attack and Ash gets his hat back. Then, to make the Annoying Apom not come back for a while, Pikachu also uses Thunder Bolt. Then, Ash throws a Pokeball at them, but before it is able to catch them, the Apom uses its tail to throw it back. Kinda reminds me of when Ash tried to put Pikachu in a Pokeball...

And we’re already in the middle of Solidad’s preformence! Her Slowbro is uses psychic to make the only part of them that is touching the ground their shell, then, it starts spinning around the field. Then, it goes to the middle of the stage, still on their shell, and continues spinning in circles while using water-gun.

And now for May’s appeal round!
She sends out Munchlax, who is told to use solar beam, but instead of just immediately shooting one off, they start super charging the energy, turning it all of the light into a huge ball. Once they finally shoot, the ball of light goes high up into the sky until Munchlax jumps up and hits it. It doesn’t dissapear but sparkles escape from it and go in all directions, as well as a low pitched pretty sound coming from it as well. May gets praise from the judges.

Yes but Brock, everybody else has spent so much time into that training and so many of them will also not be able to go, some of them tries so hard and failed. May’s case may be the same, and so he shouldn’t just rule out the idea that she might not make it to the next round becuase she trained.

So it cuts to Drew and Absol in the forest. Absol tries using Razor Wind.

But even if your Absol wanted to try to prefect the attack Absol wouldn’t want to hurt their trainer. I mean, people usually try to practice attacks on other Pokemon when training.
You know what, let’s say that somebody wants to help somebody to prefect something. It doesn’t come out how it should’ve, you could go with what May tried to do and praise them, telling them that it was great but you need to do better, you you could go with telling them that it failed, and that you need to try harder. One is going to make the person your trying to help want to get better, the other is just going to make whoever you’re training upset and be nervous that the attack doesn’t go as planned.
Though, these gifs have different words then what I’m watching, they tell about the same thing. Though, there are a few more things that the version I’m watching said and that I would comment on, right now I think that this is enough.
If you didn’t watch the scene then you wouldn’t know just how harsh Drew was being. “I’m not a wimp like you!” Drew is upset, and it’s not just becuase of the failed Razor wind. Sure, it might’ve upset him, but it wouldn’t get to the points of him yelling at May. In a later scene I’ll explain what exactly made him more angry.

Drew: We’re rivals. May and I.

Just kidding the battle starts here.
So it starts out with May sending out Munchlax and Eevee. Harley sends out Cacturn and his new WigglyTuff. Munchlax uses Focus Punch and Eevee tries using tackle. They both run towards Harley's Pokemon, but then WigglyTuff jumps in front of Cacturn and inflates their body, so when Munchlax and Eevee hit, Wigglytuff is unaffected. It's like a balloon that will never pop.

Solidad: Being able to expand Wifflytuff's body like that can mean big points, but Harley better be very careful.

Back to Harley and May's battle.
Wigglytuff jumps into the air, looking like their able to tackle Eevee and Munchlax. At the last second, Wigglytuff jumps out of the way and Cacturn comes flying towards them while using poison sting. Munchlax and Eevee are both hit and May looses even more points. Cacturn runs towards them with a needle arm but before he hits Eevee uses Shadown Ball and Munchlax punches it with Focus Punch and it goes flying towards Cacturn. Cacturn faints and is no longer in the battle.

Solidad: Wow, Harley’s cutting it close.
Drew: Maybe.

WigglyTuff, still in the air, tries coming down on them with body slam. May is able to dodge, but then WigglyTuff grabs them both and throws them unto the air. While they are in the air, Wigglytuff jumps up and uses double-slap on them both. Munchlax and Eevee fall to the ground. Munchlax uses Solar Beam and Eevee uses Shadow Ball. WigglyTuff dodges all of them, but Eevee and Munchlax continue to use the same attacks over and over, while WigglyTuff dodges them all. May looses points. Eventually, May gets an idea. Munchlax uses Solar Beam and Eevee uses Shadow ball and the two attacks combine mid air. It creates an explosion behind WigglyTuff and is sent down to the ground. While they are falling Eevee helps Munchlax into the air and then Munchlax punches Wigglytuff. Wigglytuff passes out when they hit the ground.

May starts off my sending out Cumbusken and Squirtle. Drew sends out his Flygon and Absol. May's Ssqurtle starts it off by using rapid spin. Before it hits Flygon uses sandstorm, but then May immediately afterwards makes Cumbisken jump off of Squirtle's shell and uses Mega Kick. Before Cumbusken is able to hit Absol uses Flash from inside of the sandstorm, making it so that Cumbusken couldn't see clearly when he tries to hit Flygon. Absol uses Iron tail on Cumbusken and it lands a direct hit. In order to recover from this May makes Cumbusken use Sky Uppercut and Squirtle use Bubble.
Then the episode ends :D
Don’t worry it’s just a cliff hanger, the next episode is where I keep all of the gifs.
-Conclusion-

Time to write a serious conclusion. Sometimes I struggle with these, becuase after I finish a review I just get so tiered. Five hours of writing, but writing a conclusion is fun and the conclusion might be one of the most fun parts of the review for me to make.
Now, if you’re just reading the reviews and not watching the episodes, a lot of the scenes I try to summarize or recap with telling you what they say won’t have the same feel. The one that I am specifically talking about is the scene near the middle of the episode where Drew yelled at May. I’m pretty sure I explained well enough within the review what exactly was bothering him, but I might as well restate it during the conclusion.
Drew realized that May is close behind and about to surpass him. That just hit him. He’s been watching her turn from a coordinator that barley knew what a contest was to somebody who was close to beating him. That made him realize a few things, like that he wasn’t improving nearly as fast as May was. It just hit him. I’m usually good at explaining things but for this? It’s hard to explain emotions like this. You can figure it all out in you head, but you can’t explain it.
Many people say that Drew actually meant what he said back there, and it just isn’t true. Drew knows that bullying his Pokemon isn’t getting him anywhere. He knows that May has talent, but this all just confused him, and it almost hurt. It’s confusing, and almost to the point where it’s not meant to be explained.
I always wished we had gotten more info about Drew's backstory after this scene, so I finally gave in and wrote my own take!

Okay so this show makes jokes about people’s names all of of the time, the only one I reviewed before this was “Come What May”. There is no joke here, it sounds stupid, it is stupid, there is no point, and what the fuck is “Drew’d” a contraction for?
I’ve had burning hatred for this title for so long now so I get to ramble about it
It’s fun to make jokes bout it though. Me and my brother earlier today were talking about if Solidad’s name was in here and my brother said “May we Harley Solidrew’d ya!”

Well now that I think about you May and Drew haven't really talked much, usually Drew’s commenting on May’s battling and May gets upset, it’s really been mostly competition for them aside from the few small conversations they’ve had and the episode “Who What When Where Wynuat”, Drew could’ve said something about Solidad but the topic of “Drew’s friends” never came around, I don’t think Drew’s social life was ever really even close to being the conversation topic.

Solidad: Actually, the very first time I met Drew was at his very first contest. He ended up being my opponent in the final match.

Now to start theorizing about Drew and his Rosellia: Drew had his Rosellia before he started entering Contests, and during his first Contest ever it was a Rosellia, meaning that when he was smaller he probably already had a Rosellia.

Welcome to today’s episode of embarrassing things coordinators did on their first contests: May tripped when trying to summon her Beautifly for the appeal stage and Drew cried after loosing in the final round.
Ash: That’s not like Drew!
Solidad: It was his first loss. That’s just made him work harder, and he’s been getting steadily string over sense. We’ve seen each other at contests to much that we’ve been able to stay in touch.

Solidad: Not about our preformences ever. He’s the type who never listens to any one else’s advice, so we end up talking about other coordinators we might’ve seen preformences... and at some point, he started in on you. You and only you.

Solidad: See, I think sense he’s been watching you grow stronger in your preformences, he’s gotten feelings for you. I think it’s becuase of your abilities that he’s gotten more competitive.
May: More competitive? You mean towards me?
Ash: Makes sense to me. When you find that one person that you just refuse to lose to, it’ll make you really strong!
May: Maybe you’re right... but I know that I’m still not anywhere near the level that Drew is at.
This might as well be one of the most well knows conversations in the Contestshipping fandom. “He’s gotten feelings for you” and “At one point, he started in on you. You and only you.”. You can tell just my looking at these lines how much we’re not seeing. There is so much stuff that happens off screen, and a lot of the time we don’t even know that we are missing it until it is pointed out to us, like in this conversation. We never knew that Solidad even existed until now.
I’ve never seen a good argument for the line Solidad make about “He’s gotten feelings for you” mean anything other than romantic feelings. Trying to debunk the theory that that is what Solidad meant is even harder when you pain it up with the line said right before, “At one point he started in on you, you and only you.”.
I’m saving the rest of this for the conclusion but this 40 second conversation is an extremely important one.

Now we’re FINALLY done with them talking about how the Grand festival is starting and we’re on with the first person on the appeals.
The boy jumps into the air and sends out a Rapidash, who immediately lights flames around themselves.

The next one is a Venasoar apparently pulling vines out of the ground, it gets a 77.

May starts out by sending Cumbusken onto the stage. May throws a Frisbee and tells Cumbisken to use Sky Uppercut. Cumbisken runs after the Frisbee, sliding his hands onto the ground as he runs over to it, eventually jumping high off of the ground and SHATTERING the Frisbee.
That has to get high points or I swear...

Solidad is able to tell if Drew is worried by just looking at him.

Now for Solidad’s appeal.
The stages ground has been turned to water. Solidad sends out her Lapris, who does a belly flop onto the water. Water goes splashing everywhere but Lapris didn’t seem to go underwater at all. The Lapris ten uses Sheer Cold, which turns all of the water, including the water that was still in the air from the splash to ice.

May: Hey, you’re not saying she’s better then you.

And I think this is the only line in the entire anime that tells us where Drew is from.

Doesn’t this sound familiar to you?
Back in the episode “Win, Lose, or Drew” May during her appeal round used Beautifly. One of the things that she did is make Beautifly spin in circles while using Silver wind.
It is theorized in the Contestshipping Fandom that Drew caught Masquirain in order to use the Silver Wind attack that he has impressed by.
Now, not only is Drew doing the same thing, he took the attack, and perfected it. Taking what newbie May had done, and tried to improve it, he succeeded and entered into the Grand Festival with it.
The one piece of evidence the contestshipping fandom missed.

-I brought to your attention to Drew reusing one of May’s attacks, that he was obviously impressed by in earlier episodes
-Harley will do anything to humiliate May, and doesn’t been embarrassed about it. Most men during 2005 would scream if they had to dress up as a girl, Harley enjoys it becuase he know that he is humiliating May, not himself.
-Also, Harley is gay.
-Solidad, even though she is an amazing character, was something that they tried to add in at the last moment, for most of our time with Drew they didn’t think that Solidad even existed. If they had thought up her character sooner we might’ve seen more of her and also heard a lot more about Drew so that we didn’t have to make up headcanons all of the time.

Also before we continue, a lot of people think that Drew is older than May, and one of those resons is becuase of Solidad. “So his first contest must have been so long ago”
Okay, let me explain why I think they are the same age and why this theory is wrong.
Back when we first met Drew, we see he still has much of the personality he has now, and that Solidad tells us that he was way different. Okay, let’s see how long ago the episode where May was introduced was...
A LONG TIME AGO.
This means that Drew mighte’ve developed during that long-ass span of time. Also, it took May a while to start entering contests, meaning that here was probably a longer time span where you could enter contests, and May just missed the begining. Another thing I hear is “Well why was Solidad not at that Grand Fesivel???”
Again, that was a long span of time, Solidad was not a character that was created yet, and Solidad was probably not as good of a trainer as she is now.
There is a lot more proof to the point I am making but you should be able to figure it out by now.

Absol, the Disaster Pokémon. Absol live in steep mountainous regions, and rarely venture down into areas inhabited by humans, but should an Absol be seen by humans, it is said that catastrophe is soon to follow.

Bulbapedia? When Harley told May that something was wrong with Drew, she panicked and ran to see what was wrong. When Drew said that he didn't feel any passion when Absol used Razor Wind, she whispers "Oh, Drew..." to show Drew that he's pushing Absol too hard. When Drew snapped at her, she looks completely hurt and shocked, beyond what any normal friend would feel. May also takes what Drew says very seriously instead of brushing it off because she knows it isn't true. Drew almost seems shocked himself that he speaks that way to May.

Time for my actual thoughts on these.
After what had happened and how Drew had called her a wimp, he also felt really bad for it afterwards (bulbapedia explained some of that). He never wanted to hurt May and he does regret it. That's why Drew turned so quickly when he heard on of May's friend's voices. He thought May was there so that he could apoligize.
That's another reson why he sounded so down when he realized it was just her friends.
And about May, even after that had happened, most people wouldn't be as sad, and would be at least a little but angry, but instead, May just wants to help Drew out of the stress that cuased him to say that.

well, if you have been reading this post you would know that I have been keeping track of all of the character development, and all of the things that Drew had tuaght May over this time. Many of the skills that she uses for battle she got from Drew. Drew pushing her to train batter, and just be a better trainer alltogether. I explain most of it here: Drew tries to make May want to learn more, For example, let’s take the episode where Drew was introduced. In that episode he was definitely watching her before they noticed him, so he had seen May training on the beach and decided to follow her, seeing that she could improve, and he knew how to improve. At the beginning Drew seems to be poking fun of how little ability she has, but this was actually so that she wanted to become better, and it works! For example: Who What When Where Wynuat. During the episode, they find Leechy berries, and because May didn’t know what they were, Drew tried mocking her of not knowing what they were so that she wanted to learn, and by the end of the episode… it worked! Many of the things that May knows is because Drew taught her. and that is one of the resons he loves her. one moment imma explain the rest of this post after the battle

As I was saying earlier, Drew had watched May, and helped May grow. The fact that he has watched her grow from a pretty ignorant, and inexperianced trainer to sombody that could actually beat him... this is the mean reson that contestshipping is so good. the evelution that they had both went through to get this far is just breathtaking. It was canon, and this is one of the resons that it is. This ship was so well writen, and this scene sums it all up.

The contestshipping curse is thawing and i have coped with this my manifesting a 2-ish hour cottagecore!Solidad bc I wanted to play with new brushes. Maybe this is Ribbon Cup Sol in the future after she's retired from contests and she has the bickering trio of Drew, May, and Harley over to her cottage for tea and mini sandwiches every other Sunday afternoon
