Please... Mein wasserstoffzug... She's very sick...
This is Corrie! One of my hydrail babies. Lore under the cut.
She's an Alstom Coradia iLint, one of the original test units. It didn't really show up at the scale I drew this at, but her plating and skates have the same pattern of molecules as the real train's livery.
She's initially made at "test scale" as a toddler, and spends some time with Hydra as a caregiver through her early research stages. Once she's old enough to work (early adolescence), she goes through more formal testing and eventually is put into passenger service alongside the rest of the fleet- those of whom are functional, anyway (not many).
The iLints have a lot of technical issues. Fuel cell issues, battery issues, construction quality. Hydrail is a technology in its troubled infancy, and poor Corrie is the infant it's troubling. Despite the best efforts of her engineers, she's never quite running at 100%, and that's before the fuel shortages. Eventually, fleet restructuring and withdrawal "for upgrades" means that she's effectively fired, and yote back to Hydra as her work division is dissolved.
Corrie's so baby to me. As a character, she's a quiet, anxious kid who acts out when she feels her fuel supply is threatened (like by SOMEONE converting to hydrogen), and who really needs a cuddle and a hot meal. The irl trains... God. It's been such a mess. They debuted with two out of 27 initial units operational and I think about half of them are still buggered at time of writing. They make you motion sick to ride and emit a constant high pitched whine. The passenger toilets don't work. I love them.
