I was always told to walk 15 feet in front of a car due to the stretch in the coupling. Also to expect them to move at anytime. Well this guy wasn’t so lucky after all. This train safety campaign turns VR into a horror experience “02.38” recreates the nightmare of a French train driver who had struck a teenager

Despite the renowned Australian campaign, Dumb Ways to Die, which was created to prevent children from trespassing onto railways, there has been an increasing number of rail network companies who are trying to devise ways to get those children’s attention.

A French railway operator, SNCF, decided to make use of VR to bring to life the constant nightmares in which a real-life train driver had suffered after having struck a teenager with his train. The scary VR experience is called “02.38” which was the time the accident had occurred, and its tagline reads “Don't become someone else's nightmare.”

A handful of French high schools would get the chance to undergo the scary VR experience and SNCF staff would be on board to deliver additional educational preventive messages.

The film can also be seen on the www.02h38.fr website together with digital educational content such as interviews and witness accounts. It allows people to experience the project using a VR headset and either a computer or mobile.
