Maija and I left Paris on Thursday night and when we got to Krakow Airport we headed to the city centre by train. Asked the conductor for “Glowny” station and he had no idea what we were saying. Turns out “Glowny” isn’t pronounced like how it looks. It’s actually “Dvo-zsets gwoov-nih”. We were OFF TO A GREAT START!!!!
100 “LET’S ROCK!” puns later, we got to Let’s Rock! Hostel. Went on a bar crawl and ended up at Lokal (?), (?), and The Point (?).
With our amazing hangover and lack of sleep, Libby and us went to have lunch at Gospoda Koko but we all barely managed to eat anything. We then walked to Oskar Schindler’s factory and went through its exhibition on Krakow under Nazi Germany’s occupation (10/10 would recommend). Since we didn’t want to walk home, we got on a tram and were trying to figure out how to buy a ticket. 10 seconds to 1 minute later, a man with a ticket machine came up to us and we were like Ah! Yes! A ticket please! And then he was like No! YOUR ticket please! And we were like We’ve been on this tram for less than a minute! We want a ticket! And they were like Please get off we’re giving you a fine!
And then we got fined 30 euros! Which isn’t a lot but when you’re in Krakow, 30 euros gets you a 3 course meal at a one Michelin star restaurant for 2 people. We argued with them for 45 minutes but after their repeated threats of calling the cops we just handed over our money (after trying to bribe them). We got our fines translated later on and they wrote down that they were giving us the fine for bribery. Cheeky. Was it a scam? No. Was it annoying and did it ruin the day and does it still make me and Maija angry whenever we bring it up or think about what we could’ve done with our 30 euros? Yes. What did we do that evening to make ourselves feel better? We had dinner at a one Michelin star restaurant for 2 people for 18 euros.
