I was rereading the epilogues last night and realised: Dirk is a transmed.

Like. Obviously he’s trans himself, I’m never letting go of that headcanon, but look at how he treats Roxy and their gender!! Does he even believe that nonbinary people are a thing? I don’t think so!

And then there’s just his general attitude toward other people’s identities (which, again, shows up best gender-wise with Roxy). He has to be the one in control - other people’s lived experiences have to fall into a very specific “acceptable” pattern for the sake of his narrative. If that’s not transmed-coding I don’t know what is.
