Here's a headcanon: Dennis and Dee are both trans and stole each other's deadnames as their new names because they were mutually jealous of the others full name/the nicknames that came with it

I have been writing my thesis and this chapter is about masculinity, fatherhood, what it means to be a son in a patriarchal society full of misogyny and homophobia and I can’t stop thinking about all the lgbt movies that I love and I can’t stop thinking about my fears of intimacy and I can’t stop thinking how this hegemonic masculinity has fucked up my father, my brothers and my ability to express my emotions even though I wasn’t raised as a boy (I’m a trans dude) and yet, here we are, full of hatred, without the ability to put into words how I feel, unable to tell people that I love them, and it pissed me off so much.

ok but has anyone come up with trans dee headcanons??? Like it would honestly makes sense like thats why their mom was so horrible to her and praised Dennis so much for being a 'real man' and why she had such a hard time with beauty pageants bc of bigotry. (also the gang constantly makes fun of her hands and feet for being big)

trans dee is an interesting thing because i actually have seen a fair number of people talk about that headcanon before! i agree with you on pretty much everything you’ve said here, and while i don’t see trans dee as “canon” the way i see, say, lesbian dee and trans charlie as “canon,” i am really fond of trans dee.

but like..... nobody writes dee fics? like ever? and i’ll admit right now that i’m also guilty of this myself thus far but there just AREN’T a great many dee-centric fics period, much less any that deal with dee being trans. i think i’ve seen..... one? trans dee fic? and it was really really good don’t get me wrong!! but it’s still just one

god knows i have a long-ass list of things i need to do and things that i want to write in the near future but i really really do want to write some sort of trans dee fic at some point, just because it seems like nobody else is going to

HI friends I added a chapter to my trans twins fic!! This is set in the middle of The Gang Goes Jihad, right after Barbara goes into the bar and feeds Dee's sandwich to her dog.

“I hate her so godamn much, Dennis, I hate her, I hate her!” Dee’s screaming never fails to give Dennis a headache and he rubs his temples, contemplating all of the other things he could be doing right now. Dee has all but barricaded herself in the back office of the bar and Charlie wants a wrench out of there for some reason, and so it fell upon Dennis to retrieve the wrench and assess the damage. The only damage, so far, seems to be Dee’s makeup, which is smeared all over her cheeks in the most unattractive way possible. The wrench is nowhere to be found.

i personally like to believe that dee and dennis were really close and actually sweet with each other up until like... high school or so....... imagine them staying up late at night trying on each other’s clothes and trading names

are we sending trans hcs rn?? because honestly i'm team trans reynolds all the way like dee and dennis growing up realizing they were both trans in high school and they switch clothes and dennis teaches dee how to do makeup and stuff and dee teaches dennis how to talk and act and thats why dennis had that weird God thing goin on because hes like. struggling with Hyper Masculinity and dee secretly likes the bird insult because she associates birds with femininity and ?? some macdennis angst

i LOVE trans twins tbh.... the fact that (as far as i’ve seen) it hasn’t been written into a fic yet is Disgusting

it would be really interesting to explore both of them being trans in relation to their relationships with their mother. did she always hate dee no matter what? did she actually like dee more until dee and dennis started transitioning? was dee’s transition partially motivated by the fact that her mom seemed to like dee’s younger “sister” more? SO MUCH untapped potential here

oh man! sadly i don’t think... anyone has ever really written huge in-depth posts about it? at least not the way there are big posts about trans charlie, nb/genderfluid dennis, etc, because we as a fandom are really Not Good at talking about dee

anyways, that being said, there are a lot of different interpretations of dee’s gender and/or sexuality floating around, even if none of them (as far as i know) have been expanded into huge meta posts yet

she’s not super like? invested in being feminine? like when dee does try to play up her femininity it’s almost always either because the guys are making fun of her, she needs to do it for a scheme, or because she’s otherwise feeling pressured into it. that’s prompted some people to view dee as being agender-- this one is @itsalwaysgay‘s personal favorite theory, so i would go to them if you wanna hear more about that!

trans girl dee is also somewhat popular, due to both the above disdain for femininity and (i would imagine) the comments the guys make about how large and gangly she is.

looking at the sexuality side of things, a LOT of people see dee as being either bi or a lesbian-- which one you personally see her as really seems to be more of a personal taste/interpretation thing.

the canonical evidence for both of these is that dee never seems particularly interested in men? and when she does it’s almost always because they’re hot or wealthy or desperate and not because dee’s like... legitimately attracted to them in any way at all. the symbolism of her fantasy in the gang saves the day is also preeetty strong evidence in my eyes that she has some sort of attraction to women in her subconscious, even if she doesn’t consciously act on it.

the point that it splits is whether or not you personally interpret dee’s relationships with men as being motivated by physical/sexual attraction or by compulsory heterosexuality fucking everything up as it tends to do. if the former, you’re team bi dee-- if the latter, team lesbian dee.

i do have trans dee and lesbian dee tags, if you’d care to look at those! sadly though the trans tag is currently just one playlist and nothing else

if anyone has things to add, or links to actual Big Posts about any of these headcanons, i’d love to see them! it’s possible that they do exist and i’ve just missed seeing them
