It's been a VERY long while since I've posted on here but I just want to share an unpopular hot take about I Saw The TV Glow that probably doesn't get a lot of thought nor looked at within this framing: this story, I believe, is a Lynchian suburban gothic, queer gothic and trans gothic (heavy on this!) interracial love story about Isabel, a closeted, traumatized biracial transfem of color and Tara/Maddy, a white nonbinary transmasc lesbian (in my headcanoning), who are in a paranormal hunters duo, The Pink Opaque, whose relationship and whose deep emotional, spiritual, mental, platonic, romantic, telepathic and metaphysical connection transcends time, labels and reality or fantasy planes and who end up being ripped apart by circumstances of tyranny, and one of them--Tara/Maddy--fighting tooth and nail in ripping the fabric of time and reality itself apart to rescue the love of their life and get back home while the other, Isabel, the transfem of color, is so damaged, wounded, haunted and displaced that their memory, identity and sense of self too deeply at war with itself internally and too gripped in fear to come back home. And that's what makes it a tragic queer gothic and trans gothic love story as well as a trans loving trans gothic love story--and not in the trite "bury your gays" type of way but in a way that's centering and told by queer and trans folks who know what that deep painful emotional ache of a queer love ripped away from any of us feels like. This film is way more layered and forward thinking than even I realized.

Citrus is Gourd’s wife and Papaya’s mother. She styles herself after fancy stage play clowns from the early 1900s. Delicate and posh, which immediately makes her an almost complete opposite to her husband’s aesthetic. Despite that, she lives happily with her family in the Silly Stars.
