happy #transdayofvisibility!! learning to love myself both as an individual and as a trans individual was a labour that i’m so glad to have gone through. from all those days i was in my lowest canyon to the more recent times where i find myself climbing towards my highest peaks, i’ve clung on to JACK more ardently and with more ferocity than i’ve ever done anything in my entire life. JACK is so many things: my mental illness, my dysphoria, my creativity, my inspiration. he’s not just a person in the world, he’s a TRANS person in the world – and that is something i would never want to miss out on experiencing. i love my authentic and trans self. i wouldn’t have JACK any other way. remember to always be 100% you even when the world tries to stop you. Trans Day of Visibility. I discovered I was Transgender at the age of 18, halfway through my senior year of high school. I came out to my best friend and one of my all time favorite teachers a month later. After that I didn’t come out to anyone until the night after I graduated, June 16th. And I came out to my mom. After that, I came out to different people at different times. My journey over the last four years has been a hard journey, not easy by any means, but it has been so much better than some of my fellow trans community members. I’m a grateful for the experiences I’ve had, and the milestones I’ve currently reached. May 2nd, 2018, the day that I started HRT. March 15th, 2019, my name was legally changed through the DMV on my drivers license to Alexander Powell. And every day since, I’m creating more memories and experiences to carry with me for the rest of my life. There are times where I wish I wasn’t trans. There are times where I wish I was cis. But, I wouldn’t change a single thing. Everything that I’ve been hit with in my life and have overcome, has taught me how to be me. Has shaped me into the young man that I am today. I wouldn’t change a single thing because every single day I am one step closer to completely loving the person I’m becoming. So, every year on March 31, I will celebrate this Trans Day of Visibility. I will celebrate it for those who can’t. I will celebrate it to embrace my identity, and be visible for those who can’t. I will celebrate it for everyone who has to stay closeted, or stealth, or who is shunned by their family and those in their community.
