My Tonio is dfab nonbinary and I don't see any reason not to make that the case in the background of this RP even if it never comes up, which basically means I'm thinking a lot about what that means for the Volpe family and the lines of succession via firstborn son etc. Tonio identified as male for a while before realizing that wasn't the case, and I can pretend their father respected that enough for them to then be designated the eldest son, but having a cis son younger than your trans son makes that complicated and could build resentment.

But then if Massimo doesn't want that responsibility anyway, and resents it when Tonio leaves, it could be for one of two reasons, in this context: either he was glad that Tonio took on the burden of firstborn so that he didn't have to deal with it, or he's not cis and not a son in any case and being given that title (having that title returned to him) just makes things worse.

But also too many villains are coded as dmab trans people and I don't want to further that. It's a fine line, because he's more of a base-level antagonist than a capital-V Villain, but that's still not good. I am having some thoughts.

a few rhetorical questions

how in fuck's name do you headcanon a dude born in 1967 as having psychotic illness, spend an entire 2500-word chatlog talking about how hard things were for him growing up, and yet never devote a single word to first-gen antipsychotic side effects or deinstitutionalization? 

more importantly, how do you completely skip over real world disablity history in favor of a corny "Exorcist" rip-off, and still think that you're doing the mentally ill community a favor?
