We’re getting into the ThursDIY spirit this week with this 1945 guide to home projects from Du Pont, created in partnership with the popular folk artist Peter Hunt (1896-1967) for the purposes of promoting Du Pont’s lines of paint products.
Many of the projects in this guide relied on Du Pont’s Duco line of paint products. Originally developed as an automotive lacquer in the 1920s, Duco soon found new uses. Many of Jackson Pollock‘s iconic drip paintings included Duco as a component, which he selected for its quick-drying properties as well as its particular viscosity. In the 1930s, the National String Instrument Corporation also began using Duco for its distinctive and popular line of resonator guitars.
