Something that has always called my atention when someone talks about Steven universe is that they compare it with... Avatar the last airbender. There is nothing wrong with that! but.. these series are very different! In both narrative and writing.

Avatar the last airbender has a lot of action secuences. The characters are constanly fighting. It's an action/adventure show like ben 10, teenage muntant ninja turtles,dragon ball,generator rex.

Steven universe focuses on alien life and humans coexisting. While Steven universe has action secuences, most of the series is about the characters and their lives. It's a slice of life/science fiction show. You won't find "epic battles" because that's not the show is about.

Shows like steven universe?

Lilo and stitch, transformers animated, transformers prime, symbionic titan.

Symbionic titan is about aliens refugees that hide in earth after their planet is invaded. They even "fuse" to make a gigantic robot: The titan. When there is a problem with someone, say like in episode 3 when Ilana and Lance can't stop arguing,they can't control the Titan since they aren't in sync. Sounds familiar?. And while the show is has very cool robot mecha fights the main plot is about them learning earth costumes,this is specially difficult for Lance: Since he was a kid he was trained to be a soldier. He makes very questionable decisions. He's impulse and isn't very good at sharing his emotions. Over time he opens up to others, his starts smiling more and sharing his emotions.

Others shows that share Steven universe's narrative are: OK KO: Lets be heroes! And Adventure time. They are episodic but there's continuity and the characters have arcs.
