Replaying Transiruby, I've reached the Metro area. Ah yes, I need an ID card to proceed. Truly, this game is earning its chops as a Metro ID vania.
Skipmore's new game Post Apocalypse Microbe Lab takes place in the same universe as Transiruby, judging by the Dimension Fall in PAML's opening credits, and it introduces my favorite new worldbuilding detail:
"Cyborgs" in this setting have visible obvious metal bits sticking out as well as fuckoff huge tubes sticking out of their backs, they can turn into motorcycles and so on, two out of the three cyborgs we see have clearly-artificial paper-white skin
"Androids" by default look more-or-less identical to baseline humans.
usually I when I make memes I save them as pngs, but I had to make that one a jpeg. you understand.
I dreamed that I was wandering around this school, which was also an RPG dungeon, with hidden collectables and stuff (at one point there was either a Giant Tranchip from Transiruby, or a special stage Giant Ring from Classic Sonic). At one point it turned into a lategame Game Boy Zelda-style dungeon, depicted in 8-bit on a Game Boy screen, it didn't specify any further details than that. Joe Biden was there.
Anyway, I like to think that the in-universe reason why Siruby goes "We're stuck!", when there's a platform directly over her head which her gun can activate, is less because she doesn't know until that moment that she can aim her gun in a direction other than horizontally directly in front of herself, and more that it didn't occur to her to look up, so she didn't notice that the platform was there in the first place. This of course means that Necom was being slightly more of a passive-aggressive little shit by saying "hey you can aim your gun up :D"
Sonic the Hedgehog was undoubtedly one of my formative influences, and so "gotta go fast" is one of my most basic delights. Even if it's just turning into a motorcycle or a spaceship in a metroidvania (i.e. Transiruby), or being a stunt-racing car game in general (i.e. Distance). I am absolutely a video-game-adrenaline-junkie in that regard.
