BEE SIDE STORY CHAPTER 3 IS UP PLEASE READ IT AAAAA
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
Day 3: Blade
Gelsea spent months getting used to her new body.
The genetic enhancements made it so that her colony multiplied faster, just like they said. But they hadn’t warned her that this would make her hungrier faster.
The armor welded into her system also made it hard to photosynthesize, and while she could slip out of it, it was hard to squeeze back in, so she resorted to solid foods more often. She never used to like eating this way before the operation. But sacrifices had to be made.
Her partner, Blaire, would always join her in eating this way, even though she knew they hated getting their nutrients from solid foods.
She spent three to four hours a day training in a specialized gym, getting used to her new everything.
To start with, she weighed about four times as much as she used to. She was also about four times as strong, so she didn’t feel heavier. But she felt the inertia of movement, and it was easier to damage things around her.
Then, there were the weapons. They responded quickly. They were easy to control, given how tightly they had been wired into her colony’s nervous system. Even when she stepped out of her armor, she could still control them from a few feet away.
Even so, some of her new armaments confused her. She decided to ask Blaire about it at one point when they were together.
“Why do I have a blade?” She asked, flexing it out of her armor’s arm. “The flamethrower I understand. The machine gun, the grenade launcher, these both make a certain degree of sense. What good is a blade going to do against a viral enemy?”
“That’s not for the Virali.” Blaire told her. “That’s for you, in case a large part of your colony gets infected, or the servos in your armor become damaged.”
She looked down grimly at the cold metal sword, capable of heating to hundreds of degrees.
“Ah.” She said, as the grim reality of the new life she had chosen for herself set in.

Day 2: Navigate
The Shifting Desert… A place with no landmarks, where position and geography mean nothing.
Somehow, Slade City had been built in the middle of this hostile land, between the scorching sun and the unsteady sands.
For most, the only reliable way in or out was the trains. Hulking beasts of metal and fire, charging through the Shifting Desert on steel rails that bound the desert, kept it held in place, so that it could not escape.
As Gail and her party walked, they kept the rail just in sight, to avoid the desert moving them somewhere to be lost. But also to keep their distance, in case a train came through, so they could leave the city quietly and unseen.
“The elder fae that haunt this place must be furious.” Gail muses. “I doubt they consented to any of this…”
“Regrettable as it is.” Dec, the Immortal, chimed in. “There isn’t much we can do about it now. Maybe, once this is all over, we can start on repairing Humanity’s relationship with them. For now, we use the City’s machinations to our advantage.”
“Yeah.” Gail says. “I know. I was just… Being sad about it.”

Day 1: Time
The white void stretches infinitely beyond the glass walls of the hall. It would be enough to give someone vertigo, if it weren’t for the more distracting feature of the room: Thousands of gears. Maybe millions. some as small as a finger, some as large as a house. The steady grinding and ticking of them drowns out the otherwise deafening silence.
Raith stands at one end of the hall, across from the clockwork giant, on a throne made of arrows, pointers, and clock hands.
“…And you can take away the memories, right?” She asks. “Make it so the person I was vanishes?”
Om, of Space and Time, stares back at her.
“Curious. No one has ever asked me for such a thing.” It says. “Usually such a thing is Avona’s specialty…”
“I’ve asked.” Raith says. “She refused. Something about needing to have history to heal from. Stupid.”
“You’re not worried about forgetting your loved ones?” Om asks.
Raith shakes her head.
“I know Carol. If it’s important to her, she’ll find me.” Raith says. “But I need to break the control they have over me before that happens. I can’t afford to be their puppet anymore.”
“And you’ll do anything?” Om asks.
“Anything.” Raith drops to a knee. “Please.”
“Then, stand.” Om waves a hand, and her black coat bleaches and turns grey in seconds. “I will have work for you...”
my friend's discord server has a "proof of touch grass" channel where they post pics of them doing regular activities outdoors/in public. i think many online spaces could benefit from such a thing
when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly
(also, she was never judgey - if my meal was a single potato chip she would simply say good job eating a potato chip today <3 )
which is to say, i agree proof of touch grass is a good idea for online spaces
This kinda required my brain a bit
actually this fucking slaps
