So, yall might have seen this story-

Which....has prompted big emotions from folks.

But as I was reading it, something bothered me a little. The headlines all say "pets" but the actual animals listed were chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and horses.

So I had a thought, and tracked down the untranslated Facebook post.

The word that all the English news sources, AND the automatic Facebook translation, were translating as "pets" is "husdyr"

And I don't speak Danish, but I had a suspicion. Because while rabbit and guinea pigs are often kept as pets...chickens and horses are not, right? So. I check.

I don't think Danish really distinguishes between domestic animal, livestock, and pets linguistically. And I think all those news sources just went with the Facebook automatic translation without questioning it.

Livestock. The zoo is asking for livestock donations. Rabbits, chickens, and guinea pigs are often raised for meat. They aren't asking for puppies.

Ok, I need to make a post about this before I go insane from laughing so much.

If you know or have heard about the new series “The Summer Hikaru Died” and you don't speak Spanish, you probably have no idea about all the drama and head-hunting that is brewing on the Spanish side of the fandom.

Let me tell you, it's hilariously sad.

It turns out that there is a small problem with the subtitles. A teeny, tiny one. Just a little detail. Here is a screenshot to illustrate this.

“But what's wrong with that?” you might ask, after using Google Translate to translate “caer bien” to “Like you.”

FATAL MISTAKE. Spanish has a wide range of words for the spectrum that surrounds affection. “Caer bien” is nowhere near the kind of “like you” that this scene involves. This is basically like saying, “I can't help but think of you as a chill dude.” or "I think you are nice". In other words, someone I don't dislike.

Yes, the translator chose the blandest, most *nothing* word out of the pile. At that point, the characters are already FRIENDS. Imagine thinking that's a good way to portray their dynamic? "Caes bien" is something you say to your coworker who said "bless you" that one time you sneezed. Not a close friend.

And no, it's not an error. The translator, María Victoria Rodil, argued on her twitter that her choice of words was based on her professional “judgment.” I, personally, can't imagine anything more unprofessional than shoe-horning your own opinion into a piece of media by removing ALL the queer sub (and very much implicit in all ways possible) text.

Another example of how she massacred our boy:

"I thought they were boyfriends" to “I thought he was a girl”. If this is not pure and plain homophobia, I don't have any idea what it is then.

At least the community has presented a strong backlash against this. There is a petition right now with 51.000 signatures to change it.

BUT, that's not all. The hilarious part about all this are the memes that were born as a result of this incident. Please laugh with me, I am rolling in the ground right now because the irony is so PEAK:

For years I've wondered why Takara Miss Long Hair has been mistakenly (lol) called Miss Take since the early 00s despite both Google Translate and a professional translator telling me that her name is Miss Long Hair when I had her box and booklet translated. lol

I got my brother into playing homicipher and here are some note from it:

1. He doesn't like Mr. Crawling and calls him creepy (I love him so I guess I get to keep him lol)

2. He would rather air dry clothes than get fresh new ones because "after what happened, I don't need new clothes, I don't care at that point. It'll only take like 30 minutes to dry anyway."

3. He incorrectly translated the word name into man, so I was dieing when he got to scarletella asking him "Give your man" instead of "give your name" over and over. As if he wanted possession of Mr. Crawling lol. (I wish I took a pic of that too)

4. He hates that there's caveman speak but he also hates that its not simple enough to decipher well lol. I only help when he asks by giving hints but ya know, you still get weird translations. (Also complaining about how many times you see a clicking prompt for a light being like "if you don't get that word by now, you're lost")

5. My fav translations are "man" instead of name, "raaah!" instead of hello, and "fuck" instead of care. Also "come back" instead of goodbye.

So far he's only gotten to the third chapter but already its a lot of fun to see my more serious and easily frustrated brother play this game (he's having fun too with the translation stuff, the pic is his fav of the errors).
