Fact: My family knows I’m a transboy and I came out relatively early compared to my trans peers.
Downside: “young man!”
Upside: being allowed to hang with my guy friends now
Downside: all my clothes somehow make their way into my baby brother’s closet
Upside: when shopping with my two brothers I can go “alright, I’ve got a small, who needs it? Anyone find a medium?” and we’re just three boys shopping
Downside: “MY BROTHER CAN KICK YOUR ASS” (me: wait? I can??)
Upside: I am now the man of the house
Downside??: When my birth father and step-mom broke up he said “I’ll leave the boys with my parents” and proceeded to take the two boys to where I live with my grandparents. So yeah, long story short I am now One of the Boys. And he is now separated from my step-mom.
Upside: My baby brother would legit do anything I do or say because he’s so far gone on his whole “big brother is the coolest!” thing. I once got him to wear his underwear outside of his pants. And took a picture. (I am not responsible enough for the power he gives me)
Downside: the sudden competition between me and my younger brother because he’s now the middle child. It used to be that he was the eldest boy. Now he’s not even the youngest boy. He’s the middle boy. So he’s a bit upset about that.
Upside: having all of these relatives willing to help me out with problems that come with being physically female but identifying as male. Haircut? Come on, I’ll take you. Binding? Alright, I don’t know what that is but tell me what that is and I’ll try to help. Oh! I can buy you one, I think I heard they sell that at X Store. Girl you like? Boy you like? Alright, here’s what you do.
Downside: THEY KEEP TRYING TO SET ME UP WITH SOMEONE. “hey, you know my son? my son standing right here? single. thinks you’re beautiful. you have a number for my shy, socially-awkward but smart and handsome son?” S T O P please. Jesus.
