Do you want to help improve healthcare for trans youth in Southern Ontario?
Trans or non-binary youth (ages 12-29*) are invited to participate in a study that involves a confidential** 30 minute phone or skype call.*** You will receive $25.
We’d like to hear about your experiences with access to (or lack of access to) early transition care such as hormones and/or puberty blockers. This study is for all trans youth in Southern Ontario, including those who have and those who have not tried to use hormones or puberty blockers. You may also be invited to participate in a follow-up interview. The goal of this project is to help improve support and services for trans and non-binary youth.
Youth of all backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to participate, especially centring the voices of: BIPOC youth (Black, Indigenous, Two-Spirit, People of Colour). Youth who are on the transfeminine spectrum, the transmasculine spectrum or non-binary identified are all welcome in this study, as are youth of all body sizes and all economic backgrounds. Youth who identify as neurodiverse, or as autistic, Deaf*** or disabled, are encouraged to take part, as are youth who experience mental health challenges and/or identify as mad or as psychiatric survivors. Youth who have experienced foster care or other state care or residential housing are encouraged to participate, as well as current or former sex workers, and youth with experience of the juvenile justice system. Youth with any immigration status are welcomed, including non-status.
* Youth who are ages 12 or 13 must have their parent’s consent to participate in this research. Youth who are age 14 or older do not need parent’s consent.
**There are some legal limits to research confidentiality in Canada. We would discuss these limits prior to any interview.

ABOUT ME:
I’m a trans man based in Toronto and have been working in the trans community for about 15 years. Alongside others in the community, I have worked on issues such as homelessness and access to shelter and health care for trans communities. I’ve also worked with others to help build better support for trans people who are parents and for gender non-conforming children and trans youth. I am committed to listening to and learning from trans and non-binary youth. This project is part of my PhD studies in the McMaster University School of Social Work.
This study has been reviewed by, and received ethics clearance from the McMaster Research Ethics Board.
