Oh my god so I’ve been struggling for a very long time to articulate what made me uncomfortable about “femme” or “masc” versions of characters and it’s bc that’s almost always just used in place of the word “gender swapping” without actually changing the transphobic parts of the concept.

Like. The whole reason people dislike the whole thing of genderswapping characters is bc ppl act like man and woman are “opposite genders,” which is the part that this negates.

However the other, more PRESSING thing that is a problem is that people ASSIGN CERTAIN PHYSICAL TRAITS to these words like BODY TYPE, BREASTS/NO BREASTS, THICK/THIN EYELASHES, HEIGHT, HAIR, ETC, ETC, ETC!!! And this form of categorization should sound familiar! Because these are the things transphobes use to distinguish “the two genders”

There is NO “FEMME” BODY and NO “MASC” BODY. Like if someone called my body (short, large chest, wide hips, etc) “femme” I’d immediately think they were transphobic. Because it would be!! Femme and Masc are presentations, NOT bodies. Bodies have no gender.

(Obviously they have a sex, but that’s not what I’m talking about and if you think it is you’re clearly not the intended audience of this post)

My two last posts were spurred on by the amount of trans women I have seen on Tiktok dueting just nasty transphobic / transmisogynistic videos and calmly explaining certain things about being trans but most importantly JUSTIFYING their very existence. It makes me so mad like girl u don't have to do that, you don't owe it to ANYONE. It's honestly amazing to see someone respond like that to hate and it's obviously their very own choice, but it just makes me angry lol like no one should have to go thru this. It shouldn't even be a discussion in the first place. Literally what ARE we doing to our queens

DSMP characters and how they would be butchered if the DSMP was a mainstream movie franchise a la the marvel cinematic universe

DREAMXD: is the main big evil villain, has the most boring humanoid design you can imagine, heavily queer-coded

DREAM: tragic backstory, was actually possessed by dreamXD the entire time, tommy forgives him for the horrible torment and abuse and manipulation

GEORGE: has no personality but gets more screen time than ponk and skeppy combined

SAPNAP: boring dumb hot jock character

SAM: straight up 100% evil and irredeemable, not even a whore

PONK: barely gets any screen time, is killed off by sam (they're never in a relationship, they were just implied to be friends at some point)

BAD: was a normal heterosexual man until he got possessed by the evil twisted egg that made him gay and gave him sinful desires for skeppy. confesses his feelings for skeppy and immediately gets sent to super hell

TOMMY: starts off loud and bold and becomes quiet and meek due to trauma but it's portrayed as a good thing, implied to have a crush on drista (dream's sister who's "not like her family" and is basically a manic pixie dream girl)

TUBBO: no personality beyond comic relief

FUNDY: only heavily implied to be trans in a scene where he dramatically cuts off his hair to sad music but it's never explicitly stated

PUNZ: cishet but paints his nails

PURPLED: annoying edgy teenage boy who makes dry, self-deprecating comments

WILBUR: tommy's biological brother, demonized for being mentally ill, heavily implied to be a predatory gay man stereotype

SCHLATT: abusive gay man, implied tragic backstory

SKEPPY: barely any personality or screen time, after bad's death he basically never shows up again

ERET: says he "doesn't like to use labels" so the writers don't have to explicitly say that he's bi, is never redeemed or shows any remorse

JACK MANIFOLD: completely evil villain, extremely misogynistic, treated as though he "corrupted" niki, redeemed in a scene where he sacrifices himself for tommy with no prior build-up and then dies

NIKI: complete damsel in distress with no agency or character

QUACKITY: good god the shit they would do to him and his character is too much to fit in one tumblr post

KARL: misogynist but it's treated as quirky and adorkable like in the big bang theory

HBOMB: portrayed as a creepy crossdresser who's predatory towards fundy

TECHNO: the voices in his head are demonized and are portrayed as what make him evil and violent

ANT: has a one-off scene where he offhandedly mentions his dead husband (velvet) who's never brought up again

PHIL: neglectful deadbeat dad

CONNOR: actually enjoyable comic relief

PUFFY: foolish's sister, comic relief, heavily implied to have a crush on bad (it's implied bad returned her feelings before he was corrupted and became a Nasty Sinful Gay Person)

RANBOO: has DID and it's villainized to hell and back, his enderwalk state is his 100% evil ill-intentioned alter ego, michael is his pet pig

FOOLISH: boring human with powers, his only personality is being a cool buff guy with lightening powers, twist villain

HANNAH: femme fatale who uses her looks to lure people to the egg, gets killed off but it's seen as justified and "her own fault"

SLIME: genderbent with big slime tiddies, born sexy yesterday, forced romance with quackity

MICHAEL: predatory gay man stereotype

Transphobia absolutely can be traumatizing. Being misgendered or deadnamed, being refused or stopped from receiving gender-affirming care, and being gaslit about your gender are only a few forms this transphobia might take, and all of it can have huge and lasting impacts on the victim. It might be at the hands of family, friends, medical personnel, peers, or anyone else. And all of it can be traumatizing.

Having trauma from any form of transphobia, no matter how “insignificant” it may seem, is entirely valid, even if you don’t have any other type of trauma. You are still just as deserving of love and healing as any other trauma survivor.

is it just me or is anyone else irked when people say "terf" in place of "transphobe" or "transmisogynist". all terfs are transphobic, but not all transphobes are terfs. radical feminist is an important part of that acronym people ignore when calling people it.

hey obviously im not planning on going to the trouble with all the transphobic replies and asks ive been getting but i feel like i should point this one out bc its coming from a fellow horror blogger who mainly posts gifs/edits from popular movies and seems awfully quiet about his “terf adjacent” beliefs in the actual contents of his tumblr
