WIBTA for sending my parents my wedding pictures?
I should preface this by saying that I don't think I am TA, but I can see why I would be and am open to criticism. Also, I haven't done this yet.
I (call me N, 27mtf) am getting married to my wonderful girlfriend, P (27f) in a little over a month. This is something I have wanted to do since we were teenagers and I am beyond thrilled that I finally get to put a ring on her finger. I love her very much, and generally our relationship is very good.
For context, my parents are incredibly bigoted. Christian fundamentalist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, the whole deal. Actually, every single member of my family is like that (except for one of my sisters and a couple of cousins). As you can expect, our relationship is basically nonexistent at this point. (Except for said supportive sister and cousins, but they aren't involved in this story at all.) I have known P and P's family since before my transition, and they have all been amazing and accepting, and they really make me feel loved. My parents have this big wall in their house where they display wedding and baby photos for everyone even tangentially related to them.
I want to send my parents my wedding photos (when the wedding happens, obviously) for a couple of reasons.
Everyone else in my family does it. Me being a trans lesbian shouldn't mean I don't deserve my place on the wall.
Okay, this is the main reason. My parents and their friends are both homophobic and transphobic, and are very concerned about "what the neighbors think". I want to put them in an uncomfortable situation. If they do display the pictures, it will look like they support a wedding between two women (we both will be wearing dresses, and I pass pretty well). But if they don't display the pictures, it will be like they are acknowledging that I am a girl, something they have refused to do. I want to put them in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. I think it would be funny. Plus, I genuinely have no idea which option they'll choose, and I'm curious. Sue me.
I told P about my plans, and while she doesn't like my parents (in fact, she hates them for how bigoted they are and what they did to me when I came out, but that's a whole different story), she think that this is a real asshole thing to do, and that I shouldn't put them in a situation they are incapable of winning. She said that I should be the bigger person, and that since I haven't talked to them since I was eighteen and they aren't even invited to the wedding, I shouldn't do this.
However, come on, they've been downright cruel to me ever since I told them I was trans, I think they deserve this and quite a bit more. Plus, I genuinely do feel a little kernel of hurt at the idea of who I am and who I'm marrying meaning that I don't deserve to be on that wall with everyone else.
AITA?
