Hi! So I have a male veiltail betta. I live in a college dorm and have him in a 2.5 gallon with a heater and do regular water changes. I have spring break in a few weeks and I wont be here for over a week. I don't know what to do with him for that week! I don't know anyone here who would know how to properly take care of him, and if I take him home with me I cant take his tank and it's an hour drive. would he be okay in that long of a drive in a little cup? What should I do?
Hi there, so, read this great post about taking care of your betta while you’re away on vacation before you decide anything.
If you’re still thinking about bringing your betta with you, read these posts about how to transport your betta.
If you do decide to transport, since you can’t take the tank, buy a 5+ gallon plastic storage container from the dollar store or Walmart/Target/whatever - food safe is best, like Sterlite or Rubbermaid - and bring your heater from the tank, water conditioner, and a silk plant or other decor from the tank. You can cut a hole in the lid for the heater’s cord to go through, poke some air holes in the lid too, and set up the storage container as a temporary tank. You’ll have to do water changes more often, because there’s no filtration, but it’s much better than a cup!
