TranStorm Post #2: Introductions
With the creation of TranStorm, I think it would be an ideal time to introduce myself for all of those who find this. My name is Katie, but it wasn’t always. for the first 24 years of my life, my name was Keean, and I looked like this:
But while I looked like a fairly typical young man, the truth is that I was living a lie. I lived day to day with a secret I only shared to my closest friends, and for the longest time, I was terrified of coming out as the person I knew myself to be. To quote famous transgender activist Nicole Maines, “I was trapped in gender.” But somehow through the support of my friends and loved ones, I was able to step into the oncoming light that was my journey of transitioning from male to female. To my surprise and my utter relief, it wasn’t an oncoming train that I found in that light. I found my true self, and her name is Katie. To make a long story short, It took me approximately 2 years of searching for the right doctor that would take my gender issues seriously in order to even consider undergoing the transitional changes that I so desperately wanted. It took another few months on top of that in order to finally get my letter to begin Hormone-Replacement-Therapy (HRT) so that I could start taking Estrogen. Since then, I have been on HRT for approximately a year now, and I have to say, I’m quite pleased with the results:
The entirety of my working career has been in the non-profit field, and it is the vehicle of TranStorm that I hope to make the road it takes so many who walk this path from A to B, significantly easier than it has been for me and others like me. I know that together, we will make the world a better place for all Transgender Americans, and Transgender people worldwide.
