part seven: tang “rrrrrrrevenge!!!” yi
trapped appreciation day 4: funniest scene
hands down the funniest scene is tang yi dying of mortification while shaofei listens to all his angsty voicemails right in front of him (and i don’t think it’s JUST because i originally watched it with @florbexter‘s laugh track, though that certainly enhanced the experience!!).
tang yi keeps trying to talk and then shaofei just presses play on another message, sending a fresh wave of embarrassment crashing through poor tang yi, who has had a very bad day, shaofei! meanwhile the delight on shaofei’s face is a joy to witness. he’s having so much fun and you just know he’ll be saving these messages and torturing tang yi with them for the rest of their lives.
when we got the tang-yi-leaving-angsty-voicemails scene the day before, all i wanted from the show was a scene of shaofei listening to the voicemails, but i was 97% sure they weren’t going to give it to us. but not only did they give it to us, it was better than i ever could have dreamed because poor tang yi also had to witness it!!
shaofei listening to tang yi’s voicemails is literally ALL i wanted from this episode, and not only did we get that, we also got tang yi’s reaction to shaofei listening to his voicemails, which was beyond my WILDEST dreams, so i can’t even be mad about anything else that happened. if anyone needs me i’ll just be over here watching this scene over and over and riding this high for the rest of the week.
tang yi and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day
aka episodes 15 and 16, the more or less 24-hour period in which:
his boyfriend unceremoniously hangs up on him
he spends the rest of the night calling and texting said boyfriend, whose phone is now off for unknown reasons, and leaving increasingly cranky and immature voicemails
after a night of probably very little sleep, he has to stoop to going to the police station (enemy turf) to ask his boyfriend’s boss and coworkers where his boyfriend is (so embarrassing)
he learns that his bf (who, let’s not forget, has on two very recent occasions been attacked and injured seriously enough to be hospitalized, and who still hasn’t called him back) took a sick day, and doesn’t know whether to be worried or offended so he just rapidly cycles between the two
probably at this point he starts to remember all the angsty voicemails he left last night, and wonders whether his bf is ignoring him on purpose because he’s being a little baby
his brain is just going “oh no, is he breaking up with me? i was too clingy and he hates me now. he’s either breaking up with me or he’s deathly ill. those are the only two options” over and over
the tension within his gang (which tbh was already kind of hanging by a thread) is heightening after his erstwhile lieutenant (who just a couple days ago assaulted him and tried to have his boyfriend killed) was murdered in prison, which wouldn’t have happened if tang yi hadn’t let the cops arrest him
once he finally sees his (thankfully very alive and cute and not mad at him) boyfriend, he’s acting real weird and has apparently been snooping into tang yi’s past for the last day and is now making him talk about his painful childhood
he finds out that his beloved sister is being held hostage
he’s so overcome with rage that he runs off to rescue her without thinking and walks right into a (fairly obvious) trap set by a xing tian meng member who’s been working for his enemy behind his back
he realizes he’s definitely getting murdered in this creepy warehouse tonight
he’s on the verge of finally achieving the revenge he’s been living for for the last four years when suddenly his bf reveals that the man he’s about to kill is actually his long-lost biological father
and it’s only downhill from here, babes!
