monsters seek out other monsters. wolves taste the air for their prey and in doing so, recognize other wolves. but it isn’t enough to just be wolves for them to survive. but wolves in sheeps’ clothing? without carefully-constructed masks, will knows they both never would have made it this long. in sheeps’ clothing, even they took a bit to recognize each other. and william can’t help but be impressed mark has gone so long without being detected. bravo.
amanda young and john kramer--they were public knowledge, articles and information for an even younger will schenk to pour through. but mark is an enigma. a relic from before will's time. will had left sign after sign that he wasn't his enemy, that he had no intentions of getting rid of him. still, it's the first time he dares meet him.
whatever they both get from this, it could either be the start of a promising partnership or will's attempt at killing a zombified past. he's all-too-aware of the horse tranquilizer on him should he need it. it's enough to make him feel safe. like he’s squeezing choking hands on the situation.
"you knew, huh. i can understand waiting. wanting to be sure. i wanted to be sure myself about you, mark. and--well, you have to understand--" he's vaguely gesturing, lifting a rare cigarette to his lips, tone slightly jovial. this is exciting!
"your entire existence is just as much news to me as mine is to you. i think a little bit of skepticism is healthy between us."
