I am behind on many things in DC right now but wrt the Harley Quinn stuff, DC really should just bring back a whacky side league lmao. Like we have Justice League Dark but I was talking recently about JLI (which tbf didn't exactly start out as a side team, but that era was complicated League status wise) which just has, gods such a wild and funny line-up. We need more of that. I don't want like Deadpool level HQ/JL crack but like, idk it could be fun to have a team of JL redemption seekers that's just like the worst version of hero Suicide Squad possible. I can't think of who would be on it yet but I want it to be on the same level of having 2nd Wave Feminist Black Canary, Guy Gardner at his Peak Chauvinistic, 19 year old Booster Gold, and fucking 10 year old Billy Batson as Captain Marvel on the same team.
I just had a really clear image of Hal Jordan sidling up to Bruce after a JLA meeting or like in the commons or something like "hey daddy...." trying to get some money out of him and Bruce just walks away without a word while Dinah and Barry are over there in the corner in literal tears
RTARL assumes that it’s pretty obvious that Colin Kaepernick is being blackballed but people are just stupid enough that the NFL can get away with it
News came out yesterday afternoon that the Seahawks would not sign Colin Kaepernick after being the first team to even bother reaching out to the best QB on the market post-2016 NFL season.
You can come up with all kinds of stupid justifications for why Kaepernick isn’t currently on a roster.
There’s the “he’s too much of a distraction” angle in a league where media availability is mandated and scheduled for a guy that won his team’s MVP award (as voted by his teammates) last year. What distraction do you think Kaepernick is bringing into the lives of his teammates? Depending on who you ask the protests could be a selling point to a potential locker room. I guess we can all still hope that things aren’t what they appear and that Breitbart of all places has the most reasonable take regarding media attention: NFL teams are trying to avoid front office and coaches from having to answer bullshit questions throughout the offseason.
There’s the “you have to re-build your entire offense for the backup!?!?” angle that has obviously no idea how coaching football works and ignores the fact that Kaepernick’s career got going when he took over an offense that had been run by Alex Smith midseason and came up just short from taking the 49ers to back-to-back Super Bowls. And that he performed markedly better than noted piece of shit QB Blaine Gabbert after taking over a terrible offense midseason just last year. You don’t have to build a new playbook from scratch to take advantage of a guy having better tools than the guy he’s taking over from. You might add a couple of plays. You might change one blocking assignment on plays you already run. Most NFL teams are adding plays and wrinkles and altering plays every week if nobody ever gets hurt and they all perform up to expectations.
There’s the “he’s not good enough anymore” take that is based on QB wins, I think, since his numbers were actually pretty good last year while surrounded with all 52 guys that didn’t retire when given a choice between playing for the 49ers and not playing ever again. Kaepernick actually outperformed his numbers but his receivers did not adjust or did not catch properly on a high number of his throws. Put him in a situation with good skill players and he’d suddenly look better than ever. It’s possible that his physical peak was last year, which would be sad, but 75% of what he was last year is still 200% better than Matt Barkley or Blaine Gabbert ever will be. Defensive players around the league seem to have lost no respect for Kaep’s talent.
If the Rams could trade Jared Goff to Blackball for Colin Kaepernick I would absolutely campaign for them to do so. I don’t think Kaepernick’s an all-time great but there is a hell of a lot more potential to win with him than with most of the trash in the league. I’d put him somewhere in the 10-20 range based on talent but the NFL is trash and there’s a decent chance we’ll never get to see him perform at his best ever again.
