I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by;
Two events, one larger in emotional significance than the other, took place but a few minutes apart from each other.
Browsing's Joël's Facebook account, as I no longer have my own, I took up my usual method of investigation. Some call it creeping, but that sounds too creepy doesn't it? That being said I noticed an article that my coworker wrote on her personal blog. Giving it a quick glance, I learned that she is quite the writer and keeps this up periodically, something I've lost in the last few months.
Secondly, we have the arrival of my mother-in-law's package containing my boots left behind, along with Irish necessities of gum and tea! The kettle is waiting to do it's job so I can have the Irish taste of Fallons once more.
What these two occurrences have in common was the reminder of how much I love writing. Of course I write class notes every day and there’s always an essay or research paper in progress, but this isn’t the type of writing that you get lost in and forget every single sound you can hear around you; it’s not passion.
Since high school I loved to write. I began writing in journals on a daily basis and I would come up with scenarios and copy them down on paper, only to discard them knowing the story wasn’t right.
I moved on to learning journalism, taking up blog writing, and now when I start a story it might take me forever to find the right ending, but it’s always in sight just waiting to be written down. Progression I suppose.
I do love to write. To hold a pen between my fingers until they cramp up. To press down on the keys until the type writer jams or I have to change the paper. To write infinitely on the laptop, until I forget to plug the power in. There’s always a reason to stop or to pause, but more importantly there’s always a reason to begin and to continue.
I’m at a turn point in my life where I’m always reaching for something. Saving up to move out, planning a wedding, taking classes to graduate, patiently waiting to leave the country. There’s always a goal in mind which sometimes makes the days grow long, and makes the weeks go by much too quickly, but writing puts me at a standstill when time stops moving.
