is it ever hard for you to differentiate what you know as a writer/artist vs what your characters know? like i know you get so many asks on WD!Steven's blog about how he or the gems should be able to figure something out that, for them, would be a wildly out there theory with no basis in reality. how do you keep it all separate? specifically asking for me :D

Honestly, I’m not sure how to explain *HOW* I do it. I just... do? Whenever I script or draw comics I kind of immerse myself into that character’s brain, and I don’t come up for air. I can’t even go so far as to say I’m ‘in their head’ as if I’m roleplaying them or anything - I’m just literally immersed in that universe and everything else happens automatically.

Of course I sometimes mess up and something slips through, but overall, I’m afraid I’m the worst person to ask about this because I’ve just been doing this... a long time. And I no longer know how to NOT do it.

It just takes practice. Maybe in the beginning you have to actively ask yourself ‘if I was Steven, what possible explanations would I come up with?’ but once you get into the swing of things it’s just like any other muscle (er, brain muscle) - you start doing it on autopilot.

Continuing the discussion of monster ages: it's entirely possible that certain races of monster have variable life expectancies, like how different animals have different ones. Gerson is obviously based on a tortoise, an animal that, at the most extreme, can live to be over 250 years old, so who's to say that tortoise monsters don't have a similarly extended lifespan?

Yeah, that’s my thoughts on it. Since he’s a tortoise monster, it’d make sense he had a super long lifespan. And the other monsters may have a variety of lifespan lengths depending on what kind of monsters they are, where and how they live, etc.
